Jesus Christ always points us back to the heart. That is why in everything we do, Jesus Christ is always challenging us to examine our motives. Even our tithing and offerings can become more meaningful if our motives are rightly aligned.

From the Bible writers, to Plato and even corporate management training, the Law of Reciprocity is recognized and taught. When we learn this law that God created and act upon it, we will see the fruit in every part of our lives.

God has promised to be Jehovah Jireh, our Abundant Provider, if we live according to His plan for man. Israel was often getting away from this and God raised up leaders to restore them to natural, healthy rhythms of spirituality and worship that produced abundant life. Since these were all written as examples to us (1 Cor. 10:11), we can learn much about the laws of abundant living from the Old Testament writings as well.

Tithing is not an arbitrary rule God threw into the mix of our Jehovah worship. It was well thought out and has specific purposes. What are the purposes of the tithe and what are the benefits we receive in return? And is the tithe all there is or is there more? Today we are going to explore these questions.

Tithing, or giving ten percent of your income, can be as controversial and taboo as it is ancient. Some think it was part of the Law and other claim it’s not a part of New Testament teaching. I believe both are wrong and right. This series on giving will study the origins and outcomes of putting God first in your finances.
