Zeitcast exists to capture stories of the young technologists who are grappling with the future and shaping it with intentionality. It’s a digital anthropology that reverses the gaze, and aims to articulate the hopes, fears, and dreams of our generation’s relationship with technology.
Hosts Noah Putnam and Humphrey Obuobi along with a rotating crew of guests break down different cultural and technological questions every Friday and try to do the hard work of both exploring the problems inherent in these technologies while still looking for the opportunities they can bring to the world.

Participatory Design
Noah, Humphrey, and Ivraj sit down with Heewon Lee, a design educator at the MIT D-Lab Humanitarian Innovation team. Through his rich experiences at the Horizon Center Design Program in Athens, Heewon teaches us about how participatory design can help uplift marginalized communities, as well as the challenges involved in building this kind of creative capacity. Together, we reflect on how this kind of community-driven design differs from the ways that technology is typically built and deployed, and how this new way of approaching design could help to grant power to those who need it most.

New Money, Old Problems
Noah and Humphrey chat with a few Zeitgeist community members, Patrick and Ivraj, about cryptocurrencies -- what differentiates them from traditional currencies, and the unlimited possibilities that are unlocked when money becomes native to the interactions on the internet. Patrick brings his years of experience writing about the future of technology at Mutable Matter (https://medium.com/mutable-matter) to neatly present some useful frameworks for thinking about how crypto changes the change; we also think through the risks of purely digital money, from enabling digital tontines to entrenching existing systems of power.

What would healthy online discourse actually look like?
Humphrey and Noah sit down with new friends Teddy, Ro, and Ivraj to talk about how to build a more wholesome internet. Teddy talks about the lessons they learned from their experiences as an advocate and facilitator while Ro and Ivraj talk through the ways technology could be used to mediate interactions on social media, e.g. GPT-3 for emotional labor.
