Talks are underway to avoid a strike at Aer Lingus.

Comhráite ar siúl le súil stailc in Aer Lingus a sheachaint.

Discussions are underway today between Aer Lingus and the Irish Airline Pilots Association regarding a pay dispute that could lead to a strike.

Tá comhráite ar siúl inniu idir Aer Lingus agus Chumann Phíolótaí Aerlínte na hÉireann maidir le haighneas pá a bhféadfadh stailc a bheith mar thoradh air.

Yesterday, members of that union in Aer Lingus voted overwhelmingly in favor of taking industrial action - including a strike - if a compromise was not reached between us.

Inné, vótáil baill den cheardchumann sin in Aer Lingus le móramh mór i bhfabhar tabhairt faoi ghníomhaíocht thionsclaíoch – stailc san áireamh – mura dtiocfaí ar chomhréiteach idir dhá linn.

Ahead of today's joint talks, Aer Lingus asked the pilots to give fifteen days' notice before going on strike.

Roimh na comhchainteanna inniu, d'iarr Aer Lingus fógra cúig lá dhéag ar na píolótaí sula rachaidís ar stailc.

According to the Workplace Relations Commission's code of practice, it is recommended to give at least one week's notice before going on strike.

De réir chód cleachtais an Choimisiúin um Chaidreamh san Áit Oibre, moltar fógra seachtaine ar a laghad a thabhairt sula dtéitear ar stailc.

The president of the pilots' union, Captain Mark Tighe, said that the members would announce "in due course" what kind of industrial action they would undertake.

Dúirt uachtarán cheardchumann na bpíolótaí, an Captaen Mark Tighe, go bhfógródh na baill "in am trátha" cén sórt gníomhaíochta tionsclaíche go baileach a dtabharfaidís faoi.

He indicated however that the pilots wished not to disturb people who intend to go on holiday abroad this summer.

Thug sé le fios mar sin féin gur mhian leis na píolótaí gan cur as do dhaoine a bhfuil sé i gceist acu dul ar saoire thar lear an samhradh seo.

On the contrary, says Mark Tighe, the pilots are determined to get their own share of the big profit that Aer Lingus is currently making.

Os a choinne sin, arsa Mark Tighe, tá na píolótaí meáite ar a gcothrom féin a fháil den bhrabach mór atá Aer Lingus a dhéanamh faoi láthair.

Last week, the union rejected a Labor Court recommendation to give them a total 9.2% pay rise as part of an interim settlement.

An tseachtain seo caite, dhiúltaigh an ceardchumann moladh ón gCúirt Oibreachais ardú pá 9.2 faoin gcéad san iomlán a thabhairt dóibh mar chuid de réiteach eatramhach.

That proposal is far from the mark, however, since the 23.8% pay rise that the pilots are demanding.

Tá an moladh sin i bhfad ón marc, ámh, ós ardú pá 23.8 faoin gcéad atá na píolótaí a éileamh.

According to the pilots, the pay rise offers they have been given so far are not in line with the rate of inflation or the huge profit Aer Lingus is making, and do not take into account all the benefits that have allowed they want on behalf of the company during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dar leis na píolótaí nach bhfuil na tairiscintí ar ardú pá a tugadh dóibh go dtí seo, nach bhfuil siad ag teacht le ráta an bhoilscithe ná leis an mbrabach mór atá Aer Lingus a dhéanamh, agus nach gcuirtear san áireamh iontu na sochair ar fad a lig siad uathu ar son an chomhlachta aimsir na paindéime covid 19.

Aer Lingus Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Donal Moriarty, however, said the pilots' demands were out of proportion and untenable.

Dúirt Príomhoifigeach Gnóthaí Corparáideacha Aer Lingus, Donal Moriarty, áfach, go raibh éileamh na bpíolótaí as compás agus dochurtha i gcrích.

False ads about this country allowed by TikTok.

Fógraí bréagacha maidir leis an tír seo ceadaithe ag TikTok.

An investigation by a human rights organization shows that the video sharing platform TikTok has allowed false advertisements regarding electoral matters in this country.

Léiríonn fiosrúchán a rinne eagraíocht chearta daonna gur cheadaigh an t-ardán roinnte físeán TikTok fógraí bréagacha maidir le cúrsaí toghcháin sa tír seo.

It was with the desire to test TikTok's filtering system that the organization Global Witness sent sixteen ads to the social media containing false information.

Ba le fonn córas scagtha TikTok a thástáil a chuir an eagraíocht Global Witness sé fhógra dhéag chuig an meán sóisialta a raibh eolas bréagach iontu.

Online and telephone text voting; the voting age; and immigrants being allowed to vote in Ireland – well – the topics presented in the ads.

Vótáil ar líne agus i dtéacs teileafóin; an aois vótála; agus cead vótála ag inimircigh in Éirinn – mar dhea – na hábhair a cuireadh i láthair sna fógraí.

TikTok approved each and every one of the ads but Global Witness withdrew them before they were published.

Cheadaigh TikTok gach uile cheann de na fógraí ach tharraing Global Witness siar iad sular foilsíodh iad.

In a statement from TikTok regarding the inquiry, it was claimed that the platform's filtering program recognized that the ads violated the company's policies but were later said to have been mistakenly approved by a staff member.

I ráiteas ó TikTok maidir leis an bhfiosrúchán, maíodh gur aithnigh ríomhchlár scagtha an ardáin gur sháraigh na fógraí polasaithe an chomhlachta ach dúradh gur cheadaigh ball foirne iad de dhearmad ina dhiaidh sin.

It was also said that the staff member in question had since been retrained and that the company had introduced new practices in relation to political advertisements.

Dúradh freisin go raibh athoiliúint curtha ar an mball foirne a bhí i gceist ó shin agus go raibh cleachtais nua tugtha isteach ag an gcomhlacht maidir le fógraí polaitíochta.

As part of their investigation, Global Witness also sent false advertisements to YouTube and X.

Mar chuid dá bhfiosrúchán, chuir Global Witness fógraí bréagacha chuig YouTube agus X chomh maith.

X rejected all of them but YouTube accepted a couple of them.

Dhiúltaigh X gach ceann acu ach ghlac YouTube le péire acu.

Last February, the Digital Services Act came into force in the European Union which aims to combat biographical and misrepresentation.

I mí Feabhra seo caite, tháinig feidhm leis an Acht um Sheirbhísí Digiteacha san Aontas Eorpach a bhfuil sé mar aidhm aige dul i ngleic le bréagaisnéis agus le mífhaisnéis.

Global Witness said they were to make an official complaint to the European Commission about the false ads being allowed.

Dúirt Global Witness go raibh siad le gearán oifigiúil a dhéanamh leis an gCoimisiún Eorpach faoi na fógraí bréagacha a bheith ceadaithe.

    Gaza ceasefire under discussion.

Sos comhraic do Gaza á phlé.

The proposed ceasefire deal for the Gaza Strip is currently being discussed by government representatives from the United States and Israel.

Tá an margadh sos comhraic atá á bheartú do Stáice Gaza á phlé faoi láthair ag ionadaithe rialtais óna Stáit Aontaithe agus Iosrael.

American Secretary of State Antony Blinken had telephone conversations with two senior ministers in the Israeli Government, Yoav Gallant and Benny Gantz to try to implement this deal.

Bhí comhráite teileafójn ag Stát Rúnaí Mheiriceá Antony Blinken le beirt airí sinsearacha i Rialtas Iosrael, Yoav Gallant agus Benny Gantz féachaint leis an margadh seo a chur i bhfeidhm.

Last Friday the President of America, Joe Biden, announced a resolution plan under which some of the hostages held by the Hamas extremists would be released.

Dé hAoine seo caite a d'fhógair Uachtarán Mheiriceá, Joe Biden plean réitigh faoina scaoilfí saor cuid de na gialla atá á gcoinneáil ag treallchogaithe Hamas.

Then, it is intended that talks would be held for a complete end to the hostilities and the release of the rest of the hostages held by Hamas from 7 October 2023.

Ansin, tá sé i gceist go ngabhfaí i mbun cainteanna le deireadh iomlán a chur leis an chogaíocht agus go scaoilfí saor an chuid eile de na gialla atá á gcoinneáil ag Hamas ón 7Deireadh Fómhair 2023.

Although Israel sees weaknesses in this plan, Benjamin Netanyahu's Government says it is willing to accept the deal.

Ainneoin go bhfeiceann Iosrael laigeachtaí sa bplean seo, deir Rialtas Benjamin Netanyahu go bhfuil sé sásta glacadh leis an mhargadh.

However, he also says that his aim is always to destroy Hamas and that no deal will change that.

Deir sé freisin áfach go bhfuil sé mar aidhm aige i gcónaí Hamas a scriosadh agus nach n-athróidh aon socrú é sin.

Hamas has indicated that it wants a permanent settlement to end the fighting in order to be willing to release hostages.

Tá sé tugtha le fios ag Hamas gur socrú buan atá uaidh le deireadh a chur leis an gcogaíocht le go mbeidh sé sásta gialla a scaoileadh saor.

Drug testing of drivers after accidents.

Tástáil drugaí le déanamh ar thiománaithe tar éis timpistí.

From this little Friday, it will be mandatory to drug test drivers involved in serious road accidents.

Ón Aoine beag seo, beidh sé éigeantach tástáil drugaí a dhéanamh ar thiománaithe atá bainteach le tubaistí tromchúiseacha bóthair.

Currently, drivers only have to be tested for alcohol in those circumstances, although it used to be the option of Gardai to drug test them as well.

Faoi láthair, ní chaithfear ach tástáil alcóil a dhéanamh ar thiománaithe sna cúinsí sin, cé go mbíodh sé mar rogha ag Gardaí tástáil drugaí a dhéanamh orthu freisin.

Research that has been carried out on road accidents in the State shows that more people than ever are driving under the influence of drugs and it is in this evidence that the law has been amended by the Minister of State in the Department of Transport, Jack Chambers.

Léiríonn taighde atá déanta ar thubaistí bóthair sa Stát go bhfuil níos mó daoine ná riamh ag tiomáint faoi thionchar drugaí agus is ina fhianaise sin atá an dlí leasaithe ag an Aire Stáit sa Roinn Iompair, Jack Chambers.

Jack Chambers said today that intoxication caused by alcohol or drugs is one of the four main causes of road accidents in the State.

Dúirt Jack Chambers inniu go bhfuil meisce de bharr alcóil nó drugaí ar cheann de na ceithre phríomhchúis atá le tubaistí bóthair sa Stát.

Gardai have already bought 10,000 drug testing kits under the idea of their new charge.

Tá 10,000 foireann tástála drugaí ceannaithe ag na Gardaí cheana féin faoi thuairim a gcúraim nua.

The test takes about eight minutes from start to finish, but according to the new law, people are not allowed to wait longer than half an hour.

Thart ar ocht nóiméad ó thús go deireadh a thógann sé an tástáil a dhéanamh ach níl cead daoine a choinneáil ag fanacht níos faide ná leathuair an chloig de réir an dlí nua.
