He holds a post graduate degree in Marketing Management, a Masters degree in Maritime Law and a PhD in Maritime Law - with 42 years of experience in shipping , 4 of which were as a commissioned officer in the military navy .
He is currently serving as a senior marine consultant for London Offshore Consultants in Perth Australia. -
Piracy- A conversation with Chirag Bahri of ISWAN
This episode is about Piracy, its impact and consequences on the seafarer. Through the experience of Chirag Bahri, who is a survivor of one such incident, we try and understand the scars it leaves .
Mr. Bahri began his shipping career in India in 2004, his life took a dramatic turn when his vessel was hijacked by Somali pirates for eight months in 2010– a traumatic experience for him and his family. After returning from captivity in January 2011, he decided to focus on the welfare of seafarers, particularly helping their families to cope with piracy hijacking situations. Here he discusses the incident , lessons learnt and the way forward.
As ISWAN Director of Regions, He provides guidance to seafarers, their families, as well as industry, including manning agents and shipping companies in the South Asia region and also manages regional work programme of the charity in South East Asia and Nigeria. -
