X-MEN ’97 SERIES REVIEW

In the late fall of 1992 after a previous failed pilot, the X-Men animated series hit the airwaves, ushering in a new phase of animated Marvel cartoons. Despite being plagued with production, budget, and time constraints it remained popular enough to last until 1997. A few years later, X-Men the movie was released giving X-Men fans a new era of live action adventures. Then the MCU entertainment juggernaut came along, reshaped superhero movies, and renegotiated rights for popular characters held by other corporations. Once Spiderman swung into The Avengers, it was only a matter of time before people began calling for Disney/Marvel to bring in the X-Men. And Disney finally answered that call by restarting the X-Men animated series, setting it in 1997, and picking up where the series left off. Was it still going to have the cool opening? The same character actors? Was it just meant to collect nostalgia bucks? Wright takes Bradley and Lewayne along on this little trip down memory lane to see if the X-Men animated series holds up, or if we should keep our fingers crossed for whatever live-action X-Men movies get released with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and some other people with superpowers. Listen as they discuss the new Marvel animated series, X-Men ’97.
