Women Who Shaped Me A Little Audio

As children, our favorite musicians and movie stars are like superheroes. The media we consume effects our views of the world. As a child, I was influenced by characters on screen that were not created in our current age of social activism and #METOO. I didn't always have a Captain Marvel, Olivia Benson, or Daenerys Targaryen to show what a powerful and intelligent woman looked like. That doesn't mean that I didn't find strength in unusual faces.

MARILYN MONROE - "Some Like It Hot"
Marilyn Monroe's character in "Some Like It Hot" is a woman who helped shape who I am today. The movie is known as one of the funniest movies of all time and for good reason. It is also known for using Marilyn Monroe as attractive set dressing. But even without knowing the full backstory of the woman acting on screen, I still found Sugar Kane to be a captivating character. Her humor, power, and confidence was somewhat inspiring to me as a kid. I find it strange that in a movie that is known for using Marilyn Monroe as an attractive prop and nothing more, my young mind saw an independent, strong woman.
