Statistics are showing us that the use of typical addictive substances like alcohol, drugs and gambling in teenagers has decreased by 50% over the last decade or so. However, even more interesting is that the common side effects of addiction (depression and anxiety) have doubled. So, how can the most common teenage addictions go down, but the side effects go up? … It’s the one thing this generation of teenagers have now but have never had in the past… Screens. We will discuss how teenagers are particularly susceptible to addiction, how screen addiction causes social, mental and physical issues as well as how screen addiction lead to other, potentially life lasting addiction. And why screen addiction is currently the most significant threat to teenagers.
