In Part 1 of Jeff Schneider’s turnaround story, his business, Marketing Ninjas, was on the edge of failure. But, Jeff was determined to keep that from happening. With the support of his coach, Mary Rydman, he began changing the way he worked, turning down time-consuming clients, and building a solid foundation that would allow Jeff to finally scale beyond himself.

But scaling meant bringing in new people, and Jeff needed to focus on making the right hires that would consistently give his customers an experience they’d rave about. In this episode, Jeff discusses how his Brand Commitment and hiring process helped him make his business one that he and his team are truly proud of.

Jeff Schneider’s business, Marketing Ninjas, was on the brink of failure. He was putting everything he had into it, and getting only chaos in return: 80+ hour work weeks in his basement office, hardly enough money to pay the bills, and a marriage that was falling apart. With the support of his coach, Mary Rydman, Jeff worked to turn things around.

Now, nobody loves Mondays more than Jeff. He has a real office, with seven employees and is earning nine times as much as he was before—all with a smaller group of deeply engaged clients. But it isn’t just that Jeff’s business is better, it’s that his entire life has changed.

This is the story of how he did it.

At only 19, Ovid Figueroa opened his own roofing business, Serrano II. His strong work ethic showed up everywhere in the business: if it wasn’t done right, he’d take care of it. But as Ovid’s company grew—and as he transitioned from roofing to management—he realized that he needed systems to empower his team.

With the support of his coach, Christina Ellis, Ovid’s team is more committed than ever to follow his lead in doing the right thing.

He had more time with his family, went surfing regularly and exceeded his salary goals. But after a health crisis, Jeff realized he’d become a master technician, focused only on the day-to-day, and he knew things had to change.

For 10 years, Higher Standards Academy was just Jerilyn Kass. She was independently doing the work of the entire business—teaching SAT prep to college-bound students—and growing slowly but steadily. For a while, slow and steady worked for her. But comfort soon grew into impatience, and she realized faster growth would take an outside perspective so she could see and focus on the areas of her business she was neglecting.
