    3. Life purpose

    4. Intentional living

When you journal about the right goals for yourself, you ensure that you’re moving in the right direction. Intentional living involves knowing/thinking about what you truly want to achieve.

“My job in space will be to observe and write a journal. I am also going to be teaching a class for students on earth about life in space and on the space shuttle and conducting experiments.” – Christa McAuliffe

    5. Emotional Quotient (EQ)

When you spend time expressing yourself on paper, you’re aware of your thoughts, feelings, and emotions. You understand and accept them, thus, can take calculated actions! With better EQ, you can work on harnessing relationships that matter to you, both in your personal and professional life.

8 top self-improvement tips that will help you live a happier, more productive life
After being stuck at home for weeks with little to fill your time other than school assignments, you may well be beginning to slip into a state of existential angst and boredom.

For advice on how to stay optimistic, both during this trying time and in future, Young Postturned to Dr Sylvia Kwok, convenor of the Positive Education Laboratory and an associate professor at City University’s Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences. Here are her top tips for maintaining a happy, healthy mindset.

    Develop your interests
Spending time on activities you enjoy or are good at does more than just make you feel good. It empowers you with a sense of freedom to express your emotions and motivates you to keep working on building your skills, says Kwok.

You should be careful and not push yourself too hard when pursuing your goals though, or you might lose interest in them, she adds.

Self development is a lifelong process. It is a gateway for people to evaluate their abilities and excellence, consider their aims in life, and set goals to realize and maximize their potential.

This self development podcast channel will help you to identify the skills you need to set life goals which can enhance your employability prospects, raise your confidence, and lead to a more fulfilling, higher quality life. Plan to make relevant, positive, and effective life choices and decisions for your future to enable personal empowerment.

Although early life development and early formative experiences within the family, at school, etc. can help to shape us as adults, personal development should not stop later in life.

This self development podcast channel contains information and advice that is designed to help you to think about your personal development and how you can work towards goals and your full potential.

    Develop a growth mindset
The way you perceive your successes and failures can affect your well-being, which is why it’s important to develop a growth mindset. This is the belief that you’re capable of improving. One of the ways you can strengthen this mindset is by overcoming challenges. This isn’t always easy, but can be made easier if you anticipate these challenges as you set your goals and think of ways to overcome them ahead of time. You should also be ready to adjust your plan when an unexpected challenge arises, says Kwok.

Another key to having a growth mindset is being able to ask for help when you need it. “Remember, you can’t do everything by yourself,” notes Kwok. “You can always reciprocate others’ kindness by offering to help them in return.”

Lastly, Kwok says acknowledging your accomplishments can help strengthen your growth mindset, and that even the smallest achievements deserve a pat on the back.

She suggests rewarding yourself with prizes such as handmade medals that you can display in your room to remind yourself how far you’ve come.

    Set ‘smart’ goals
Having an aim does not only gives you a clear sense of direction in life, but also promises a sense of achievement each time you get closer to your goal.

Kwok says you first need to set “smart goals”. These are goals that are concrete, sensible, and time-sensitive. She adds that thinking about the steps you need to take to reach your goal and writing them down, will help you achieve them.

    Self-Confidence Action Plan
    How to Start One
While it is wonderful and absolutely necessary to possess personal confidence or self-confidence, is it possible to have too much?

    Believe it or not, yes!

Even as most people lack enough confidence, or possess a positive self-image, there are those who overestimate their capabilities, are over optimistic, take on too much risk and end up crashing and burning.

So why am I even bringing this up?

The answer is, because in order to build true/genuine self-confidence, your self-image must be founded in reality. You must know who you are. You must have a realistic evaluation of your abilities and you must commit to continued self-improvement. Add to that learning to maintain focus, motivation and persistence, and you're on your way!

A good way to build and maintain your self-confidence and stay focused is to set up a program or action plan for yourself. Here is an outline of how you can go about it. You can customize it to your own needs or you can follow the steps as I've presented them.

    Self-Confidence Action Plan

Become aware. Know who you are and what you want. As has been said so many times - "If you don't know where you are going, how will you know when you get there?" Take the time to figure out what your strengths, aptitudes and capabilities are and how you can to best use them to achieve personal satisfaction and fulfillment. Draw up a chart or excel spreadsheet outlining your strengths, what you enjoy doing, and how you can establish goals. List the things you'd like to do and what you have to do to accomplish them.

    How to Build Self-Confidence
    10 Helpful Tips
When I was in my late teens a friend of mine, an elite athlete, gave me the most profound, yet simple advice that changed the way I would view myself forever. He told me:

"If you don't think very highly of yourself, you can't expect anyone else to think it of you."

Translation - It means that we alone are responsible for building self-confidence.

We cannot depend upon, or wait for anyone else's approval. We must see ourselves as worthy and capable of achieving anything we choose to achieve.

Ultimately, how we see ourselves is more important than how anyone else sees us. If we don't work at loving and accepting ourselves, nothing anyone else thinks matters.

In a similar vein, have you ever felt that you don't measure up to others overall? In that case, think about how many times you may have met a gorgeous man or woman and then afterwards forgot how good looking they were because they had nothing interesting to say or could add nothing of value to your perspective. I would think it happens more often than not!

Consider that in an opinion poll done by Men's Health Magazine (1,000 American women ages 21 to 54 in two online polls) women rated traits relating to character and personality much higher than they scored those reflecting physical attractiveness.

In other online questionnaires filled out by both men and women the number one quality found desirable in someone was 'self-confidence'. Physical attractiveness didn't even make the top 10!

The bottom line is that what you think of, and how you project yourself, is more important than merely having good looks. Building self-confidence is not only a great way to attract others, but a great way to feel good about yourself!

    Tips For Building Self-Confidence

    1. Acknowledge Your Uniqueness. Believe in yourself and know that you are one of a kind. In the words of Walt Whitman know:

    "That you are here--that life exists, and identity;
That the powerful play goes on, and you will contribute a verse."

    Dare to Be An Original
When you dare to be an original you are in essence daring to be "yourself" and everything that encompasses who you really are. To many of us, that can be a scary and daunting proposition.

    And why is that?

Because it means putting ourselves on the line. It means subjecting ourselves to scrutiny, judgment and possible ridicule. It means exposure and vulnerability.

Certainly there is more comfort to be found in conformity, lying low, and blending in with the crowd.

There is also boredom, complacency, and the prospect of never living to your potential.

It takes courage and self-confidence to dare to be an original - to reveal your uniqueness and to show that you're one of a kind. However, as with any frightening endeavor, the rewards of overcoming obstacles and prevailing far out weigh the consequences of not venturing forth.

As the late Steve Jobs noted in his speech at a Stanford University graduation commencement:

"Your time is limited; so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."

It's true. Life is too short to live it trying to be anything other than your true, original self. Be who you are, and be it the best way you know how. Celebrate your individuality and uniqueness. Dare to be an original!
