    VECTOR INTERVIEW - 07 - Ellie Krakow

    VECTOR INTERVIEW - 07 - Ellie Krakow

Ellie Krakow is an American Artist, Educator, and Curator based in New York City.
Her current solo show, "Linoleum Spine" is featured at the Marinaro Gallery in New York City until February 26, 2022.
In this new body of work, Krakow reflects upon the devices of medical intervention, architectures of medical support, and parts of bodies that are the recipients of such intervention. Her glazed ceramic forms reveal her lived experience of bodily fragility, creating objects that – like her, through decades of living with an invisible chronic illness – inhabit the space between flesh and technology.
Ellie Krakow is an interdisciplinary artist who earned her MFA from Hunter College and her BA through study at Yale University and the Rhode Island School of Design. Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions at venues including Marinaro, Below Grand, Goodyear Gallery at Dickinson College, NURTUREart, Spring/Break, Field Projects, Thierry Goldberg, Present Company, Wasserman Projects, Kingston Sculpture Biennial, and the Pula Film Festival. Parallel to her studio practice, Krakow works on text-based and curatorial projects as a way to build dialogue and discourse around themes that matter to her including bodily and environmental loss; mirroring as a potential site of transformation; and displaced or disabled communication.  Krakow's text-based works have been published in Precog Magazine, VECTOR, Lookie Lookie, and Drain Journal of Contemporary Art and Culture. Her curatorial projects have been shown at The Whitney Museum of American Art, Mazmanian Gallery and Thomas Hunter Project Space. Krakow has participated in residencies at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Yaddo, Abrons Arts Center, and Shandaken: Stormking. She currently teaches sculpture and serves as the director of Mazmanian Gallery at Framingham State University.
This discussion was recorded at her studio in Long Island City in August 2021. ---------------------------

    VECTOR INTERVIEW - 05 - Jerry Kearns

    VECTOR INTERVIEW - 05 - Jerry Kearns

Jerry Kearns is an American artist, Cultural Activist, and Educator, based in New York City.
His current solo show - "BLAM!!!" is featured at Frosch & Co Gallery in New York City until June 6th, 2021 and showcases a series of paintings made from 2016-2020. True to his philosophical view of art as a part of the healing process, Jerry was inspired by both personal and world tragedies.
Over the last 40 years he has participated is countless exhibitions and cultural projects across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. His work has been featured in The New York Times, Art and Auction, Artforum. His paintings are in collections at the Museum of Modern Art, the Brooklyn Museum the Whitney Museum the Art Institute of Chicago, and the National Galerie in Berlin.
His work is described as “psychological pop” paintings that represent a multidimensional quantum universe. Juxtaposing varied modes of representation, presenting a visual mash-up that highlights how certain iconography expresses American belief structures. Compositions rife with conflict, questioning, contradictions and intrigue, depicting iconic figures sourced from Western popular culture engaged in perpetual power struggles. His characters fluctuate between protagonist and antagonist in a narrative that reflects our own constructions of reality – a matrix of thought where time and space are condensed and presented in a single, tense moment.
This discussion was recorded in New York City on May 2 2021 - The first half was at the Frosch & Co Gallery where he is currently having an exhibition. I want to give a thank to the Gallery director Eva Frosch for letting use the space.
    * There is a about 7 minutes in the middle of the recorded where the sound went out on one of the mics - although the sound quality drops I thought it was important to present the entire dialog.
The second half was recorded in his studio in Bed sty Brooklyn
This episode is dedicated to the memory of his life partner the singer and songwriter Nora York.

    VECTOR INTERVIEW - 04 - Alina Grasmann

    VECTOR INTERVIEW - 04 - Alina Grasmann

Alina Grasmann is a realist painter based in Munich -
She creates large-scale, site-specific compositions that blur the line between fact and fiction. Her works are inspired by a specific film or piece of literature as a starting point - which then takes her on a journey of exploration - where she researches places and then visits them in real life, recording her experiences and the atmosphere through photographs. Drawn to the narratives of each place, she compares the reality and sensation of the place with the way she imagined it would be, then makes interventions by changing or adding objects, or erasing parts. Rather than illustrating existing myths about a place, she aims to create space for association so new stories emerge.

    VECTOR INTERVIEW - 03 - Federico Delfrati

    VECTOR INTERVIEW - 03 - Federico Delfrati

Federico Delfrati is an Italian Artist and Musician based in Munich, Germany
Quoting his statement "Every aspect of reality interpreted by humankind’s curiosity and its search for meaning creates opposites and paradoxes, ethical dilemmas, vulnerability and megalomania."
Through different medium that encompass video, performance, music and multimedia installation, Delfrati's artistic production addresses the above mentioned thematics with an empirically oriented research process whose outcome often ends up in thought experiments with a DIY approach.
In this framework, his practice aims to discern the ambivalent image of a humanity in the face of nature that is vulnerable and manipulative, humble and megalomaniac, curious and naive. His most recent project "Beresheet", consists of a music album that tells the story of the sixth mass extinction on Earth (the one caused by human action), to an audience amiably relaxed upon a bean bag shaped as a Tardigrade: one of Earth's most ancient and resilient creatures (at least one that survived all five previous planetary dying-outs). The narration brings the listener through five chapters that mirror different emotional stages when dealing with a catastrophe: from despair to rage, resignation, ambition and acceptance.

    VECTOR INTERVIEW - 02 - Miya Ando

    VECTOR INTERVIEW - 02 - Miya Ando

VECTOR INTERVIEW - 02 - Miya Ando Lives and Works in New York City, USA
Miya Ando is a Japanese and American artist whose painting and sculpture articulate themes of perception and examine one’s relationship to time. Ando is a descendant of Bizen sword makers and spent her childhood between a Buddhist temple in Japan as well as in rural Northern California. Her work pays homage to ancient techniques and ideas, fusing them with contemporary materials and forms. She often references historic literary texts and examines the idea that the fundamental nature of reality is that all constituent forms that make up the universe are temporary; a concept found in Buddhism as well as quantum physics.
