God’s Purposes in Our Pain // 1 Peter 1:6-9
Peter shares with the exiled church that God has plans and purposes for their suffering. Albeit difficult, God uses suffering for the good of his people. We not only read of this in Peter’s epistle but witness this truth throughout the pages of Scripture. Ultimately, for God’s people, the inevitable task of enduring suffering will test the substance of their faith. Yet, a faith built on rock which is Jesus Christ, will enure the storms and last forever.

Encouragement for Exile // 1 Peter 1:3-5
Peter’s original audience was a band of churches scattered throughout Asia Minor. Under the ever-imposing shadow of Rome, life for these exiles was fraught with challenges, suspicion, and even violence. So, like a good Pastor, Peter writes to encourage them. Reminding them of who their God is and the benefits he’s bestowed upon them.
