Social Justice Education in Higher Ed

Social Justice Education in Higher Ed

What is social justice education? What are its benefits and challenges? What effects do social justice education efforts have on the members of a small college community like ours at Connecticut College?

In this episode, some of our peer facilitators from the Agnes Gund '60 Intergroup Dialogue Project interview their fellow ConnColl students, as well as faculty and staff, to get their views on social justice education broadly, as well as the efforts currently underway at Conn. We explore what we, as a community, need to do this work effectively and sustainably, whether as a person with marginalized identities fighting for liberation, or a person with privileged identities looking to be an ally/accomplice/co-conspirator.

    Episode 1- Welcome to Dialogue!

What *is* Dialogue? What is the Gund Dialogue Project at Connecticut College? What potential does intergroup dialogue have to change our campus and our world?

In this intro episode, we will provide you with an overview of our program so far. You will hear from students who were in the first intergroup dialogue first-year seminar, the professors who co-taught the course, and from some of our incredible peer facilitators from the inaugural peer facilitator cohort, who have been working since last February to learn how to facilitate these kinds of conversations.

This episode first premiered at the Connecticut College Elevate Conference on 1/26/2021.
