Physical and mental injuries can persist long after an incident of intimate partner abuse has occurred. According to Islam, marriage provides its partners with security, safety, calm, and comfort. Any form of abuse is contrary to the ideals of wedlock. Abuse has no defense that is consistent with the teachings of the Qur'an and the life of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him).
