Latiné Musical Theatre Lab with Robin de Jesús & Ryan Morales

Latiné Musical Theatre Lab with Robin de Jesús & Ryan Morales

On this episode of the Broadway Gives Back podcast, we have two crazy talented and very passionate guys as our guests - Robin de Jesús and Ryan Morales.

Robin de Jesús is a film and theater actor best known for playing roles in the Broadway musicals In the Heights, La Cage aux Folles, and in The Boys in the Band, which earned him three Tony Award nominations. He also starred in the film adaptation of The Boys in the Band on Netflix. He was in the mini-series Welcome to Chippendales and the film tick, tick... BOOM!, directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, for which he received massive critical acclaim. Robin has a reputation of being one of Hollywood’s and Broadway’s hardest-working actors who always delivers.

Ryan Morales is an actor, a singer, a producer, an activist and the Founder & Producing Artistic Director of Latiné Musical Theatre Lab, an organization that develops and advocates for new Latiné-written works of musical theatre. His mission is to radically change who gets to tell musical stories on stages across the country and around the world. Ryan has a passion for telling stories about men who find strength in their vulnerability - not shame. Stories that elevate the Latiné and LGBTQ+ experience beyond the boundaries they typically exist in.

Speaking of Maestra… we will also be talking to multiple award winning music director, composer, lyricist, pianist, and music producer, Georgia Stitt, who started Maestra Music to provide support, visibility, and community to the women and nonbinary people who make the music in musical theatre— and now together with Lin-Manuel Miranda, they are developing and managing the RISE Theatre Directory which is helping to build a more equitable and inclusive theatre industry.

Earth Month Series - Jessie Mueller

Our guest today is the “Beautiful” actor, and we mean that literally and figuratively, Jessie Mueller! Jessie starred in Beautiful, the Carole King musical and won the Tony Award for her performance. Jessie also has been nominated for a Tony for the leading roles in Waitress, Carousel and On A Clear Day You Can See Forever. Her body of work is breathtaking and inspiring. As impressive as her acting career is, her social activism is equally as impressive. Jessie supports art education, LGBTQ+ rights, anti-gun violence, women’s rights, Broadway Cares and the Entertainment Community Fund.
In this episode, Jesse joins the podcast along with Anika Larsen, a Tony Award Nominee and a climate devotee, to talk about the environment during Earth Month. This is part of the series, called The United Nations Global Goals where we talk about tackling the world’s “to do” list to make our planet a better place.
