They are the backbone of any good piece and can help a lot. If you have good understudies involved, your piece is destined for greatness and you'll put out a lot of fires just having one of two people who can step into any role at any time. As the director, it's your job to rehearse them and make them feel appreciated and needed...because they are! ~enjoy!
