2020 brought us a lot of stress and sadness, but author V.E. Schwab gifted us with one magical yet heartbreaking read. It's no Warrior Cats novel, but we see a cat in this book, along with many historical events, Beethoven, love, loss, super-toxic relationships, awkward dinner parties, and more! Want to know why Addie's life is so invisible? Join us and our friend Reiner as we dive into The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue!

Brittany is out sick, but she dodged a bullet because we
talk about WAR forever, ever, and ever…literally. Joined by Lex from Chasing Childhood Podcast, we agree Agamemnon is the WORST and shocked he hasn’t been killed yet. The odds are never in Patroclus’s favor, and is Achilles really THAT awesome of a guy? Tune in as we complete our journey with Madeline Miller’s,
Song of Achilles!

87. Song of Achilles: Ch. 1 - 19 w/ Wendy Tabor & Reiner Slay
TW: sexual assault & rape
After a brief hiatus, we are back and ready to go with a new book on our TBR list which is Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller! Joined by our friends Reiner and Wendy, we’re introduced to our protagonist Patroclus whose life changes after murdering a bully (by accident) and is exiled off to where he meets his forever main squeeze Achilles. Along with the awkward budding romance scenes and possible war looming in that will greatly affect our main protagonists, Brittany shares her elementary school romance trauma, Catherine doesn’t understand sexual fruit imagery, and Bartok makes a small appearance because he’s hungry for plump ripe figs.

86. The Art of Gathering
It's been a long time coming but we are back! We are coming off our hiatus with Priya Parker's The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why it Matters. We both went into this book thinking that it was going to be about literally why we gather (maybe from an anthropology approach) and in any context. Parker focuses a lot of her book on gathering in a formal context (work meetings, etc) and events with a specific purpose (weddings, baby showers, etc.). She does make some good points that we can apply to our day to day lives though! Parker argues that any gathering of three or more people with a specific purpose should be organized in such a way to maximize the experience, and she states that most of us aren't doing so. She leads the reader how to host these gatherings to transform the experience.
We might not have gotten everything out of it that Parker was intending, but we were able to apply many of her points to mental health and our podcast. We also are in awe that we are drinking the same seltzer and we discuss the idea of We are Here Days in Atlanta. Catherine pulls a Reiner and shows up to the podcast after watching an interview with Parker and Brittany decides to bring the whole staff of Olive Garden to Catherine's wedding. This, and more, on your favorite podcast!

85. Midnight Library: Love & Pain - How it Ends w/ Marie Walker & Reiner Slay
TW: panic disorder, anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, & suicide
After much delay, we are happy to be back and give you the final installment of The Midnight Library! We are joined by one old friend and one new friend! You know him, you love him, Reiner Slay (vocalist of Concrete Supergun) is back! We also have a new guest, Marie Walker, host of Culture Cult Show!
Nora has become tired of life jumping, but has life jumping become tired of her? After literally trying every life available to her, Nora thinks that she has found the life that she can live in, but certain aspects of that life keep her from being 100% satisfied, so she finds herself back at the library. It turns out that the library is falling apart and on fire. What happens next? Does Nora want to live or die?
We go on a mega rant about caffeine (if you want to hear more on that, feel free to join us on Patreon). We do have some serious conversations about gauging happiness, chess, and marmite. Marie tells us why modern marriages don't last, Reiner is convinced that Nora is a serial killer, Catherine gets overwhelmed by chess, and Brittany explains how she listens to the instructions of games (she doesn't). This and more on your favorite podcast.
