How Martial Arts Affected My Sense of Femininity with Nelita Villezon

SKNFLUENCR IS BACK FROM OUR HOLIDAY HIATUS! Today's episode is featuring Nelita Villezon—a Black & Filipino actress, martial artist, and self proclaimed "share-er". We had some really interesting conversations in this one regarding auditioning for Black roles in Hollywood as a lighter skinned mixed person, how martial arts has affected her sense of femininity, and she even spoke about her secret agent grandma...I'm not joking. You're just gonna have to listen to hear more about that.

Interracial Marriage, How Colonization Affected Filipino Fashion, & Indigenous Pride with My Mom

Interracial Marriage, How Colonization Affected Filipino Fashion, & Indigenous Pride with My Mom

Today’s episode is another special episode for me because today’s guest is…my mom!
October is Filipino-American History Month here in the US and in the Philippines, it’s National Indigenous Peoples’ Month so I really wanted to dedicate this episode to Filipino heritage, indigenous history, and I wanted to give my mom the space to talk about what is was like to grow up as an Indigenous person and an immigrant. I think her story would resonate with a lot of those listening, particularly those that are immigrants or children of immigrants.
So I really hope you enjoy this episode!

Gender Identity, Style, & LGBTQ+ Representation with Celebrity Hairstylist Alyx Liu

Gender Identity, Style, & LGBTQ+ Representation with Celebrity Hairstylist Alyx Liu

I had a chat with Celebrity Hairstylist (responsible for Ariana Grande's ponytail) and Founder of Utiles Beauty Alyx Liu about gender identity, the gender binary, lgbtq+ representation, and how that all intersects with his personal style and beauty routines. As a person of mixed Chinese and Mexican heritage, Alyx also talks about beauty standards in Asian cultures and mental health growing up in an immigrant family.
