Welcome to Unraveling Adult Sibling Rivalry episode 1 with me, Marilyn Stoner, I am a nurse with a PhD in transformative learning, researcher and author and I experience ASR in my large extended family. More importantly, as a hospice nurse, I help families, who have experienced ASR reconcile grievances in the last moments of a loved one’s life.

Every family is unique, every rivalry is created from unmet expectations of one kind or another that start in childhood and may continue throughout adulthood.

Even though we have lifetime relationships with brothers and sisters, there are no universally accepted role expectations. Like you my ideas about what a loving sibling is have changed as I have gotten older. I am about to turn 65 as I record this episode. No matter what, I wish every person in my family peace and happiness.

Each of the 10 episodes in this series will deal with some aspect of adult sibling rivalry in different types of families. This episode is about introducing the series and sharing some research and steps I’ve taken.
