In 2009 & 2010, many MC’s from across the Midwest would decide to band together to present a united team that would regularly travel to New York in order to compete with top names on the battle scene such as T Rex, Murda Mook & Loaded Lux amongst many others. This movement from MC’s comprising initially mainly from Detroit, St Louis & Chicago would become known as the Midwest Movement. The movement would provide many classic matchups, great interviews, great promo & most importantly break down the gatekeeping that was happening with Battle Rap at that time. In this video we will look at the Movement on a whole, how it came to be, what its status is now & its lasting impact on the Battle Rap Culture in 2021.
