029 - Manipulation & Justice: Amanda Knox's Gaslighting Odyssey The Gaslight Effect Podcast

    • Maatschappij en cultuur

On this episode, Dr. Robin Stern talks with Amanda Knox - a woman who, at a young age, found herself entangled in the complexities of the Italian legal system, her name echoed around the globe.  Robin and Amanda  illuminate the darker corners of her story, focusing on the glaring presence of gaslighting.
Amanda Knox is an exoneree, journalist, public speaker, and author of the New York Times best-selling memoir, Waiting to Be Heard. Between 2007 and 2015, she spent nearly four years in an Italian prison and eight years on trial for a murder she didn’t commit. She has since become an advocate for criminal justice reform and media ethics. She sits on the board of the Frederick Douglass Project for Justice, and serves as an Innocence Network Ambassador.
Amanda's journey began when she was studying abroad in Perugia, Italy. The unimaginable happened when her roommate, Meredith Kercher, was tragically murdered. What followed was a legal saga that painted Amanda as a suspect in the eyes of the media and the public.
Amanda recounts the relentless gaslighting she endured - from the distorted narratives in the media to the courtroom theatrics. She describes how doubt was meticulously planted, manipulating perceptions and leaving a lasting impact on Amanda's life.
This episode isn't just about one woman's struggle; it's a mirror reflecting the broader implications of gaslighting on individuals facing high-stakes situations. Amanda Knox brings a unique lens to this conversation, having lived through the crucible of a relentless media storm.
We hope you enjoy this unfiltered conversation, as Amanda and Robin navigate the chilling realities of gaslighting, the quest for justice, and the toll it takes on those thrust into the spotlight.
