#13: The Industrial Revolution and its Archaeology - with Kieran Gleave Schnack von gestern

    • Geschiedenis

You may remember the Industrial Revolution as that part of your history text book where they started throwing numbers and statistics at you. And while that of course is a fair way to understand what happened when mechanisation transformed the way people had worked for quite literally thousands of years, there are things about the everyday life of people that has so far often stayed hidden.

Archaeologist Kieran Gleave (PhD Candidate in Heritage Studies, Sidney Sussex College, University of Cambridge) shows what the material record tells us about the lives of millions who worked in factories under conditions which are unthinkable to us today. It tells a story of large-scale transformation of economy and peoples’ way of live, of human ingenuity but also poverty and exploitation - and the heritage of this story that lives on to this day.
