Alone: A Love Story CBC STORIES

After being a devoted listener of CBC Spark for over 8 years, Michelle Paresi's voice has become incredibly familiar to me. Due to my unfortunate choice of a subpar podcatcher (Stitcher) for all those years, I regrettably missed out on experiencing Paresi's remarkable memoir.

However, with Alone, she manages to deliver the same exceptional quality in a completely fresh and innovative manner. This show is not only thought-provoking but it's also infused with a delightful wit and cleverness that I wholeheartedly recommend immersing yourself in. So go ahead and indulge in a binge-listening session - you won't regret it!

Michelle Parise should have tattooed Omphaloskepsis in stead of Forza e Corragio. I’ve made it until the end of season two because I can’t stop hate listening. This podcast sends me into full body cringe.

The host tells her story overly affected, with fake laughs, bad voice acting and through it all there are melodramatic musical interludes (sometimes with the host singing, lmao) and too many meaningful pauses.

And then there is the story. A privileged, codependent woman in her late thirties just. can’t. stop. (These were meaningful pauzes)

She cannot stop sleeping with her withholding ex husband who had an affair—and calls this romance. (She has never seen a movie by herself and is proud of it? Tf?)

She cannot stop sleeping with young men which she gleefully kicks out of the house after orgasms and calls them ‘babies’ because of their age AND TO BOOT keeps a list of all the men she slept with, including ranking. She’s 38.

Lastly she cannot stop humble bragging (‘my husband tells me men won’t like it if I’m this good in bed, now I’m hurt’). Lady, just brag that you look good and can take a pipe and go.

Also there’s some weird Italian nationalism and stereotyping. Oh, really, you can’t stop crying and screaming because you are sUcH aN iTaLiAn but also you can’t cook? Lol.

All in all: a revenge fantasy full of toxic patterns and cliches written by a preteen girl stuck in a grown woman’s body. It lacks originality and depth and becomes repetitive very fast. There is no attempt of a critical and honest look in the mirror. Two stars because I’m still listening apparently!
