EP4: Discussion about Mandela Movie, Democracy and Elections
We discussed about a Tamil film named Mandela. The movie beautifully talks about democracy and elections. It is said that " the ballot is more powerful than most potent gun". Any election whatsoever should not be neglected in democracy, more so in the case of elections for state legislature and Parliament. Even though the voting percentage of the Indian electorate is one of the highest in the world, we need to introspect whether such ballot has delivered substantive outcomes or not. Most importantly, the reluctance of the educated and employed sections to participate in voting is definitely harming our democratic setup. As Telangana elections are approaching, we delve deeply into issues in our public discourse such as utility of vote, role of identity, freebies vs development and so on through Mandela movie.
