Wellesley College launched a suite of writing-intensive seminars in September 2013 through the generosity of the Calderwood Charitable Foundation. The seminars, taught across numerous disciplines, provide seniors and juniors the chance for “one final lap around the major” before they graduate, fine-tuning their writing skills and preparing them for careers in their field. The seminars will rotate through departments and programs each semester, with class size remaining small. These advanced-level courses will challenge students to integrate what they have learned in other courses and to communicate this knowledge to a broad audience. This “real-world” writing can be a departure from the academic styles students have adopted in writing during their college careers, but will help empower a student’s “voice” in her major field of study. Developing the ability to translate complex arguments and professional jargon to a broad audience is a central feature of a liberal arts education.

Andrea argues that a positive step in attenuating growth would be universal availability of contraceptives.
