The Dils, Rank & File, Cowboy Music - to Kid's Punk Rock! The wonderful world of Chip Kinman...

For some, stretching the boundaries within a genre of music is a big enough challenge. How about artists who create new genres? That's what you're talking about when you listen to the amazing body of work with Chip Kinman. And we're not talking about some goofball experimenting in his mom's basement. We're talking - listening audiences. Fanbases in multiple genres. And now - Kid's Punk. The Dils - the seminal LA true punk band fronted by Chip and bro Tony Kinman. Rank & File - the invention of country-punk including Alejandro Escovedo. Blackbird - industrial and noise - what a transition! Cowboy Nation - traditional cowpoke songs following the trail of Autrey and more. And now PCH - Pacific Coast Highway - punk with a youthful edge . You gotta listen to the special in order to really get the nuggets of genius displayed! God Bless Love Bug! LISTEN HERE

Fundamental Tracks VI - The Record Low

What happens when two guys from opposite sides of the country meet in the Rocky Mountains (Telluride, CO)and take that musical energy to Chicago? If you said, "Flight of the Conchords," you'd be wrong. However, Henry Joseph and Robby Haynes bring together a tightly chaotic style of passionate rock that will take your breath away when you see them live. The intensity and the passion in the music not unlike the Replacements with big resounding choruses traipsing the path of Big Star. Never satisfied with just standing still musically, they are continuing to travel in new directions that affirm this band as sonically daring, while remaining a pleasure to listen to both live and in the studio. Enjoy some live studio tunes with this podcast as well. LISTEN HERE

With songwriting that spans the globe and harkens back to old tin-pan alley songwriting with narrative journeys wrapped around pop, rock, grunge, whatever rock - the Record Low is like a manic episode. You'll be drawn to them. Through the music, through their shows, through this interview. Andy Pulliam interviews them at SXSW, and highlights the studio website, Daytrotter, as well as some new music news by newly transplanted Texan Joe Nickles. Listen HERE
