If your affirmations have never worked then you could be missing this.

If your affirmations have never worked then you could be missing this.

At their core affirmations are good things they help us frame our minds to see things differently and so much more.

At their core affirmations are good things they help us frame our minds to see things differently and so much more.More times than not, I have seen that affirmations do not work for me. And there is a good reason for it. The structure of an affirmation follows this:

    How you say it
    When you say it
    What you say

There is so many different ways that this practice is taught. For instance some say you need to say it 3x a day and others say once is enough. And then there is the How and What you say. You must act as if it has already happened with the energy of elation. There is nothing wrong with affirmations. They are simply a tool like anything else.  But if it's not working for you like me, then I have a good idea to why that might be. It's that you are not believing what you say.

I tell a personal story about how I learned to write affirmations from a gifted spiritual mentor.  Every time I would offer my own created affirmation she would critique it and say that my words were throwing off the energetics. I created a belief that "I am no good at writing affirmations." I internalized this and as you can probably see that this underlying belief sabotaged my affirmations NOT because I was using the wrong words.

As I mention, these critiques from my mentor was triggering my PERFECTIONIST. Once this lovely block is activated well, no matter what words I write were going to help this. There is another part to why affirmations weren't working and that is not enough emphasis was being made on the Energetics of the affirmations. What is the energy behind what I am saying?

My Mentor would make tweaks and edits to my affirmations. I could read it of course but I never truly believe it because the words she came up with weren't my own. As Empaths, we must believe what we say. "Fake it 'til you make it" is an idea that is lost on us because deep in our hearts we DON'T believe it. Even if we truly want it.

Later I met another coach who had a beautiful way through this debacle of not believing your affirmations but how you can make them work for you. She offered this simple phrasing that you can attach to it: A part of me wants to believe ...(add your desired outcome). This feels so much better than trying to "trick" myself that I already HAVE it when I know I don't. As I reveal in this podcast I still hold tightly to the belief that I am not a good affirmation writer! And that brings me to the point that I believe firmly, if it doesn't work for you then you don't have to keep trying to make it work.

With an overactive perfectionist at play I know that no matter what this won't work for me, or maybe I am not getting it in the way I thought. The thing that is really important to note is that you can use other ways of creating magic that are beyond a well written affirmations. Nowadays, I use my oracle cards and psychic abilities, follow my intuition as my primary tools for manifesting whatever it is want to call in, experience, or feel in this life. I really believe in them and I know that is why they work.

The bottom line of this episode is here to tell you to:

"Use your intuition, feel into what tools will work for you, and know that if you don't believe 'em, then they'll never gonna work anyway."

This is the one thing that stops you from listening your intuition.

This is the one thing that stops you from listening your intuition.

What really gets in the way of your intuition?

    Introduction:

As a part of this audience of Seekers I bet you already know what your intuition is all about! We know it is a beautiful wonderful gift we all have that can feel extremely magical.

Segment 1 - Not trusting our intuition.

There are many reasons why we don't trust it. The main and collectively held reason for us not to trust our intuitive senses is because we were indoctrinated to hold intellect at a higher esteem than our intuition. We believe only evidence based thinking rather than gut feelings and the like. I hope that in the future that we see more of a marriage of the two. We don't have classes on this in our schools. That is when we will know that it's made its way back into society as being an integral part of the human condition rather than a gift that some have and others don't.

Segment 2 - If not trust then what is it that gets in the way.

BELIEF! I tell you about how I experienced this in my own life. Every time I would try to "trick" myself out of accepting that I have intuitive and psychic abilities, they would come back anyways. What I realize is this: I had a deeply held belief that in fact I do have intuitive abilities. But I can also believe that they don't work or that it doesn't exist. But when you discover what you deeply hold true that is what takes precedence.

    Segment 3 - Mentally stable.

I trained myself to believe that I didn't have them. It is a story I shared before on this podcast here: This topic of mental illness and psychic abilities is a tricky space to navigate. I made the decision to shut them off because I needed to preserve myself. I wanted my life back without losing myself by way of being diagnosed with a severe mental illness that meant I would need medication and supervision for the rest of my life. I make a bold statement by saying that in this modern age we don't hang or burn people we diagnose them. Of course, this was my single experience of being institutionalized in a time when things weren't readily accepted such as psychic abilities and the like. I do not wish to undermine anyone else's experience or any legitimate diagnosis.

    Segment 4 - Your Values.

A deeply held truth or in other words a Value. This is why trying to hold a different belief for the benefit of survival or to escape being labeled or diagnosed did not ever work in my case. And the value that I think that would not let me do it is Loyalty to myself. I could not betray who I am in totality. The Truth of who you are will always rise up. It will find a way to be seen. Limiting beliefs can allow us to choose what we want to believe. But eventually our Inner Wisdom (intuition) will show us what we truly believe. So the #1 thing that can get in the way of you accessing your intuition is if you believe you don't have it.

What do you believe? Do you believe you have intuitive abilities? Let me know in the comments.

These 3 things are getting in the way of your success, healing and intuition.

These 3 things are getting in the way of your success, healing and intuition.

What are the 3 things?  They are blocks or limiting beliefs.

And the top 3 that I believe that get in the way of healers and coaches are: Not feeling good enough, Imposter Syndrome, and  People pleasing.

At honorable mention are: Perfectionism & Comparisonitis. These two blocks can easily be a close cousin to any of these 3.  In this episode, I explore further on beliefs and tell a story about how I found one particular email from a fellow healer/coach not correct in the way we should perceive blocks. Their assessment was: they don't REALLY exist and you don't need to remove them because you are whole. This is partially true. I believe it's not the full story.

What do you believe? And how have you seen these 3 blocks get in the way of your success?

    Crossing ethical lines in coaching.

    Crossing ethical lines in coaching.

Can we talk about how ethical lines get crossed in coaching?
The last 90 days or so I've taken some time to really examine my own dance in this industry that gets a lot of flack, and for good reason, for not being one that is the most ethical. Whether that is the mistreatment of the title, COACH, and how this is a career path that is not regulated enough or at all. Beyond that how does that translate to the public at large who have been finding themselves in a space of looking for answers or transformation through the help of a coach.
Cult-y much? No, not me: One easy place where we can see immediate evidence of crossing ethical lines, is in CULTS. Specifically, one that I really had a strong reaction to, called NXIVM (pronounced Nexium). I talk about seeing the docuseries on HBO named THE VOW. This cult was designed as a self improvement, "life your best life", cult. Well, that is coaching. When watching this series often I found myself SCREAMING at the TV with my husband sitting beside me on the couch. It doubled with the second season. The documentary displayed how easy it can be, as a coach, to abuse your leverage on a client. It is an awful example but powerful. And you can also see how easy it is for someone who is looking to improve their lives could get caught up in it. One thing that came up in one episode was someone in a public place saying, "I would never get caught up in a cult." Quickly one of the defectors who heard this said, "You would be surprised how easy it is."
Cult-like thinking runs rampid in our culture. We think its the weak and simple-minded who are prone to be taken advantage of but it is not so. It is those who are seeking for change who are the ones that most often are targeted. Because cults need money and so, it is usually highly intellectual people who get drawn in. With that in mind, take a look at a few podcasts I mention to hear more about the cult culture and about this specific one: NXIVM.
The dark side of coaching: This segment I express my own troubles as being a coach in an unregulated industry and personal experiences with harassment and gaslighting when a very specific incident occurred. What this experience has shown me is that it's part of a truth that I did not wish to acknowledge for myself or to others. In whatever way we see it. Whether that is how coaches treat their clients and/or how we still have work to do in the arena of victimization in all industries of work. Specifically here in coaching. This story highlights how I was bypassing something important. Something that could not and would not be ignored.
Finding peace in it:  Being a Truth seeker my whole life I didn't realize this fundamental thing about the Truth that it isn't always wrapped up in nice packages and that it is never one side or the other...it's BOTH, the dark and the light! I may not like the dark side (of anything really) but ignoring it doesn't mean it goes away or make it any less part of the truth.
Are you a coach or healer? How have you reconciled with this in your work?

*A Little Bit Culty by husband and wife, Sarah Edmondson & Anthony Ames who left Nxivm. Their experience and that of others going through similar experiences are told on this podcast.
Another great podcast on this subject is Cultish by Jeremiah Roberts and Andrew Soncrant. They explore all kinds of cults and all the impacts they have on society.

Is it possible to have fun AND be spiritual?

Is it possible to have fun AND be spiritual?

A lot of spiritual teachings I have seen, both online and off, have been really seriously boring. I mean by being so serious has made spiritual stuff boring. Does it have to be that way?

I feel like as teachers of intuition, magic, and spiritualism, we feel a huge responsibility to make sure those learning from us, learn the “right” way, have reverence for the energies that they play with and learn how to be safe & protected. I know from my own experience, I intend that anyone that works with me not ever to experience what I went through when I came out of sleeping, aka, awakening. It was a rough opening to this world. You can listen to that story here.

And now I realize, there is no way I can protect any one from anything. I can’t prevent something that your soul designed to experience. I’ve been SO serious about this that I shut off my FUN valve. I’m a pretty fun person when you meet me. So a few months back I started asking myself,

    Where’s the FUN?
If there was ever time to really expand into our fun it is when we decide to truly engage with our intuition, psychic abilities, and the like. It is suppose to be FUN.

    Why FUN?

You might have a different approach to this or another word that gets you there. I choose FUN because it frees us from any rules. And it’s a word that I associate with mostly from my childhood.

Remember back when you were a kid? Remember how everything you did was in service of FUN? We could create fun out of any thing, any one, at any time.

As a kid, you might’ve decided to knock over a freshly built Lego tower…why? FOR FUN!  You jumped off the top of the couch because you wanted to see if you could fly because…IT’s FUN!

This is precisely where we can find our magic if we think we lost it. Tapping into those fun times as kids. Think about the kind of things you did as a kid and start there.

Here in the Netherlands we have a comedy theater, Boom Chicago (named after Second City in Chicago), offers classes to intro of improvisation. So I dragged a good American friend with me and we went. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN! I had my first class last week and I have never laughed so hard in my life. It connects back to when I was a kid in a youth theatre program. We played these improv games for a few weeks before getting selected into a play. Finding the fun in your life, taking things less seriously will bring you to a place that is high vibe. This will open you up creatively and intuitively. You are letting go, feeling free and exploring what you are capable of by having fun.

I know as adults we get so serious and into our responsibilities. I believe we can find fun in any part of our lives. Of course not all things are fun. What I suggest here is by asking:

Where can I find the FUN in (this) ?

When you do, you are opening yourself up to more joy, ease and potentially laughter when you let go of those rules around the way things should be done.

When you think of spirituality what word do you associate with it?  Could fun work here?

And if you need a pump up in life then use this question:

Where can in my life or business could use an infusion of FUN?

Share with me in the comments.
