The Greatest or Worst Holy Roman Emperor: Barbarossa

The Greatest or Worst Holy Roman Emperor: Barbarossa

Frederick Barbarossa (which literally translates as “the red beard”) was one of medieval Europe’s most famous rulers. Originally from Swabia, Germany, he grew up and united almost 1600 German states and micro-states, was crowned Holy Roman Emperor, went on two crusades, was excommunicated, supported an anti-pope, reconciled his relationship with the Pope once more and built diplomatic relationships with royal houses across Europe, from Byzantium to the British Isles.

    The Chaos of The Reformation

The Protestant Reformation was the 16th-century religious, political, intellectual and cultural upheaval that splintered Catholic Europe, setting in place the structures and beliefs that would define the continent in the modern era.  The chaos of the age would bring the future

Blood and Sand: Gladiators of Rome Live Recording

My friends I promised for months that for those that came with me On my trips we would do a live recording of the podcast. Well here we are. Join me and 20 friends and followers as we nerd out about roman and gladitorial history. The Roman gladiators were ancient professional combatants who fought before the public in large arenas built for entertainment during a time from 105 BCE to 404 CE within the Roman Empire. Most ancient gladiators were slaves, prisoners condemned to death, or former slaves given a chance to buy or win their freedom. This is their story

History of Everything: The Fall of Napoleon

History of Everything: The Fall of Napoleon

Napoleon Bonaparte, also known as Napoleon I, was a French military leader and emperor who conquered much of Europe in the early 19th century. Born on the island of Corsica, Napoleon rapidly rose through the ranks of the military during the French Revolution (1789-1799). After seizing political power in France in a 1799 coup d’état, he crowned himself emperor in 1804. Shrewd, ambitious and a skilled military strategist, Napoleon successfully waged war against various coalitions of European nations and expanded his empire. He was far more impressive than what ridley scott presents.

Enthusiastic fact waterfall

I love that you keep giving us all these amazing (little) facts so enthusiastically while not everyone always cares. I love to do that too.
Fun fact "wat een boer niet kent dat vreet ie niet" which means "a farmer doesn't eat it if he doesn't know it" is still a common saying in The Netherlands.
