not what it once was

The podcast used to be the sharpest analysis available on the arena metagame, arena strategy and high level gameplay analysis. Recently I feel the cast has taken a sharp turn for the worse. The cast used to extensively cover the state of the game and the strategy, in the last couple of weeks the choice was either of 3 topics. 1) ADWCTA and Merps have made a brilliant tierlist, based on, you guessed it, an algorithm, that is basically the best thing since sliced bread. 2) Blizzard is not communicating 3) Blizzard is dumbing down HS arena.
Now I do not mean to say that any of these points is necessarily *wrong*, what I do mean to say is that A) we need some more nuance and b) stop beating dead horses. Especially after you say you do not want to go beat dead horses.
1) The tierlist is absolutely brilliant, and probably the most useful one out there. But the number of corrections you made and errors you spotted over the last months should really make you a bit humbler about the values it delivers. A model is only as good as its assumptions. Just because something is mathy doesn’t make it right.
2) This is a damn shame, and a multi-million dollar company should really know better. But is hardly something that you can change by talking about it. So: discuss how we should deal with the limited info situation, rather than bashing B over and over. It gets old real quick, and gives the podcast a very negative energy. You are smart guys! We want to hear your interesting thoughts, not your whining.
3) It is probably true that 10.4 has made the game less skill-intensive. However, there *always* will be higher level play available, as long as there is enough complexity in the game and/or limited information. HS has both, so no worries there. It just might take a while for the pros to find the next edge: the edge is absolutely there. Has 10.4 helped scrubs like me more than pros like you? Absolutely. Let us suppose that is the direction blizzard wants to take the game in: what does that mean for the future, and how do we deal with that? How can we still be better than average players? I really think that is a much more interesting than concluding for the 6th consecutive podcast that blizzard made the game less skill-intensive. Yes. We. Know. Again, you are some of the smartest guys out there. I cannot accept “well, we just don’t know the offering odds anymore” as an answer; you are better than that.
