Food Culture & Appropriation in 2020 ft. Chef Jernard Wells

Food Culture & Appropriation in 2020 ft. Chef Jernard Wells

Welcome to Season 2 of Live! at Hive. I'm thrilled to be back and kick off the show, having on as my special guest, my good friend, celebrity chef, entrepreneur and host of the cooking show 'New Soul Kitchen', Jernard Wells. After a long break, mostly due to COVID-19, I decided to have my friend Jernard as my first guest because he was the last person and colleague I worked with in person before Corona shut us all down.  We tell you all about our latest collaboration.

It's Hispanic Heritage Month, so I celebrate by opening with a poem by the famous Cuban poet, José Martí.

In this episode's signature Soapboxing segment, Jernard and I go into the politics of food culture, food ways in America. Specifically, is food appropriation a real thing? Can a Japanese person open and run a Cuban restaurant and vice versa, or is that culture vulturism? Jernard dishes his very generous thoughts while I counter with an alternative.

We also explore how entrepreneurs in the culinary industries can look at building wealth and not just stand behind the stove.

Also, we celebrate Jernard, whose cookings show 'New Soul Kitchen,' on CLEO TV networks, comes back strong with Season 2 premiering this Saturday, Oct. 3, 9pm EST. And, to boot, I'm co-hosting 4 episodes and kick-off the season with him!

Listen, enjoy, share, and subscribe to Live! at the Hive. Subscribe to the show and don't miss all that's coming in Season 2!

The Over-Policing of Brown & Black Women's Bodies ft. Julia Carias-Linares

The Over-Policing of Brown & Black Women's Bodies ft. Julia Carias-Linares

My friend, colleague and TV exec, Julia Carias-Linares joins me for today’s Soapbox on the policing and shaming of Brown & Black women's bodies, a la J.Lo and Shakira's Super Bowl halftime show. We also get into Gayle King's and Snoop Dog's very public beef. Did she violate culture code? Was his apology enough?

Also, Morehouse College has a polo team! And Malcom X investigation reopens after documentary.

Remembering Kobe Bryant's Mamba Mentality & the #GirlDad Life ft. Allen Johnson

This episode is in homage and in celebration of the life and legacy of basketball legend, Kobe Bryant and his 13-year old daughter, Gianna. Husband, father, real estate maven, investor, and new author, Allen Johnson, joined me for a very special conversation while we break  down Kobe's well-branded 'MAMBA MENTALITY'.  We also talk what it's like being a true #GirlDad. Also, Akon has his own city in Senegal, Africa. Next level!

Closing the Racial Wealth Gap Without Oprah or Jay Z (ft. Delvin Joyce)

Closing the Racial Wealth Gap Without Oprah or Jay Z (ft. Delvin Joyce)

I've been waiting to do this episode and hope that it invites a very important conversation in your home. My friend, former NY Giants running back and financial adviser, Delvin Joyce, and I have a very provocative conversation around the racial wealth gap in the United Sates. We soapbox billionaires Jay Z and Oprah saving grace and the NCAA paying athletes. We remember Juice WRLD, celebrate Greta Thunberg and explore the killing of indigenous people in Brazil. My charge this week is to be of service.

    Living in Gratitude

    Living in Gratitude

Welcome back to Live! at the Hive. In episode 3, I bring on my first official guest music and show co-producer, Eddie Valoy. This episode was hot! Kanye dominated the conversation. Do you support him as a pastor? We also dive into birth control for men. Gabrielle Union was fired from America's Got Talent last week. I support her.

Also, a charge of living with intentional gratitude and living intentionally with expressing it every day.

    "She Remembered Who She Was..."

    "She Remembered Who She Was..."

... and then her game changed." A quote by Lalah Deliah I'm currently living through. In my second episode, I spend a few more minutes introducing myself and why I've decided to do a podcast at this time. More specifically, I focus on knowing our why and our purpose, and how knowing so can have tremendous impact in our lives and literally change it.
