From COVID-19 to Hair Cuts- Handling Fear in our Children and Ourselves

From COVID-19 to Hair Cuts- Handling Fear in our Children and Ourselves

With store shelves empty and schools closed for weeks, Hudson Valley families are faced with a new reality brought about by COVID 19. With the introduction of the virus, new anxieties arise as parents take on the responsibility of guiding and protecting their families throughout the coming few weeks. While adults worry about staying healthy, telecommuting and social distancing, toddlers have a whole separate but real set of worries. Whether it be a trip to the dentist, the hair salon, or just turning out the light for bedtime, their sense of discomfort can be overwhelming for an exasperated parent. Angela and Nicole discuss the tactics that have proven successful in the combat of both their own struggles with the current health crisis, as well as their child's fear of visiting the doctor's office for shots. Kristan McDade from The Underground Hair Salon (in The Land of Oz of Rhinebeck, NY) joins the show to discuss her approach for alleviating the fears in her younger patrons and creating an enjoyable experience for parent and child alike.

Sleep Consulting w/ Ro @ Infant Sleep Solutions

Sleep Consulting w/ Ro @ Infant Sleep Solutions

Some children sleep 12 hours...some children don't. From the 10 PM night owls to the 5 AM early birds; from the co sleepers to the cat nappers- Ro's got a (neatly executed) plan for that! Ang and Nicole focus on the art of sleep consulting with Ro Chickery of Infant Sleep Solutions. Somewhat surprisingly, sleep consulting isn't only reserved for the elite. Ro's goal is to create a customizable formula to lift the fog of sleep deprivation for families everywhere through the dedication she places on learning what make your child unique- and what makes them sleep through the night.

    Rhinebeck - Sinterklaas

Dive into a world of dancing polar bears and trick-playing grumpuses, circus performers, brass bands and streets filled with stars. On December 7, the village of Rhinebeck will be transformed into a scene straight from dreams, borrowing a page from the Old Dutch tradition of Sinterklaas. Meet Sinterklaas Hudson Valley Designer Jeanne Fleming as she spins the magical story of the tradition and shares the wonder of the early winter night when all denominations, cultures, and ages join hands together.
Come along with Angela and Nicole as they attend a crowns and branches workshop in preparation for Festival day and get a behind the scenes look at what makes this community staple possible. Curious newcomer or devoted festival veteran, allow yourself to be transformed and transported into a snow covered meeting ground of the new and the old, where wishes are possible and children are kings and queens.

    Stanford - Library

The town library is an important staple of every community, and Stanford is no exception. Come join Nicole as she  visits the Stanford Free Library for Tuesday morning story time. Afterwards, Nicole sits down with Director of Children’s Programming, Danielle Sundberg, to hear about all the library has to offer- from teen sewing to mahjong.

Our musical guests this week are two local, and very talented young women- Juliana and Meredith Sundberg. The sisters play their violins and discuss growing up in a the small town, being homeschooled, and a very exciting opportunity on the horizon.  They finish the episode with their own ukelele rendition of "Havana" by Camilla Cabello.
