Episode 52: Extending the Human Lifespan

Episode 52: Extending the Human Lifespan

Who wants to live forever? I doubt very few people would want to live forever, but over the past few years there have been many discoveries that could help prolong human life. Extending human life spans from 200-500 years is nice and all, but how would that affect society? Everything that we know and consider to be "normal" would have to drastically changed. In this week's episode we talk about the different aspects of society that will have to adapt to overcome the issues that significantly longer lifespans brings to the table. Overpopulation, natural resources, education, jobs and the workforce are just a few aspects of society that couldn't continue on in it's current state if humans were to drastically increase their lifespans.

Episode 51: FCC vs. Net Neutrality

Episode 51: FCC vs. Net Neutrality

Back in January 2014, after a federal appeals court told the FCC that they didn't have the authority to regulate broadband access, we were told by the FCC that this isn't the end of the Net Neutrality fight. The Internet rejoiced. Nearly four months later a report leaked from the FCC stating their support for a "Fast Lane". This would allow companies to pay ISPs (Internet Service Providers) to allow their traffic to flow through the ISP network at increased speeds/priorities than other Internet traffic. For many this is a major shot at Net Neutrality.

In this week's episode we discuss the ramifications of this report, including going down the rabbit hole with a worst case scenario of Net Neutrality being thrown out the window. How does this affect America, the world, and how we use the Internet at large?

    Episode 50: Self-Driving Cars

    Episode 50: Self-Driving Cars

Autonomous cars have been talking about quite alot over the past few years. With Google demonstrating that the concept is a viable one several years ago, laws have been past in 5 states so far to allow these cars on the road. In this week's episode we discuss some of the pitfalls that may plague wide release of self-driving cars. Security and privacy are some of our largest concerns with the high possibility of cars being tracked with personal information gathered for the purposes of "metrics". However, we do see that autonomous cars would be a huge boom when it comes to taxis and public-like transportation. Even though we feel that there are some issues concerning self-driving cars, we do feel it is a viable technology with some great applications.

Episode 48: Facebook Acquires Oculus Rift

Episode 48: Facebook Acquires Oculus Rift

Its safe to say everyone was shocked when it was announced that Facebook was purchasing the VR hardware company Oculus Rift. The collective "What?" was heard across the vastness of the Internet. We've done quite a bit of coverage of the Oculus Rift over the past year and felt that we couldn't let this opportunity pass us on discussing the whys of this acquisition and what possibilities lie ahead. In this episode we cover all of the above and speculate about Sony's new VR offering and how we feel that Sony helps to legitimize the future of VR and how Facebook might have just saved Oculus Rift's future from the Sony onslaught.
