Being in Business with your Partner: what could go wrong? with Jed Bickford

Being in Business with your Partner: what could go wrong? with Jed Bickford

In this episode I talk with veteran business coach and entrepeneur Jed Bickford about his experience working with couples who are engaged in various types of business ventures and how he helps them maintain their connection in the midst of the various threats a business venture can impose on them. He's done the work himself as well! He and his partner Madison have launched a successful used clothing store in Boulder, CO while deepening their relationship.
    Here's a bit about Jed:

Jed McCabe Bickford is an entrepreneur, angel investor, and mentor to couples who are in business together.

Jed is an interesting blend of business owner, advisor, and coach. After selling his first business, he went on to be part of the leadership team at EMyth, a business coaching company founded by the author of *The E-Myth Revisited*, Michael Gerber. After spending years managing marketing, product development, and IT — and getting a deep training in business coaching — he left to focus on mentoring business owners.

He’s worked with hundreds of founders, small business owners, and startup teams to support holistic growth and healthy team dynamics.

Jed co-owns and serves as CFO at Apocalypse, a secondhand clothing store in Boulder, Colorado, with his partner, Madison Moorhead.

Jeff Pincus: Lover's Quarrel vs. Street Fight, Bullets and Toilet Paper

In this episode I talk with veteran couples therapist Jeff Pincus about the dangers of going into full blown threat response in the couple system and how to repair things when things get ugly.
Jeff lays out the "AIR+P" repair process:
    Acknowledge the behavior
Impact (name the impact your behavior has had on the other)
    Regret expressed about the behavior
Plan: come up with a plan to insure this kind of behavior doesn't happen again

Jeff also explains how we are wired to do the less than loving thing in our interactions with our significant other.

    Here's a little about Jeff
Jeff Pincus is an internationally recognized couple therapist, relationship coach and educator whose mission is to help couples to Love Well. He has helped thousands of couples transform their relationships in the three-day intensives and workshops he leads. He views the complex, challenging and even painful moments of intimate relationship as a potent mandate to heal, grow and do the loving thing. His work is informed by neuroscience, somatic psychotherapy, systems thinking and Tibetan Buddhism. He walks his talk, sometimes imperfectly, with his wife Rachel.
