    Sowing Your Oats

    Sowing Your Oats

Porridge, ploughing and sleeping on Bees!
On a rare sunny evening in a very challenging Spring I caught up with Kevin Scully in a field on the family farm as they ploughed in preparation for sowing their Oat crop.
Kevin and family grow and mill the only certified organic gluten free Oats in the country on their farm in the midlands of Ireland.
It was a pleasure to meet and chat to Kevin about their story, their wonderful products and the history of their farm. www.themerrymill.ie

    It's Only Rock 'n' Roll

    It's Only Rock 'n' Roll

Family farm life in Wales-on our first episode of 2024 we meet Will and Sarah Evans whilst they are over on holiday in county Cork. Many listeners will remember Will's very popular, 'Rock 'n' Roll Farming' podcast. We had great fun recording this one and it was great to meet this lovely couple! Hear about their family and life in general on their mixed enterprise farm. We chat about everything, from selling vegetables direct and how it was tricky to make a margin, their use of homegrown feedstuffs on their farm and we even touch on the future of tenancies in the UK and what plans they have themselves for the future. Will and Sarah also give a great and very honest insight into Will's difficulties in recent years involving his mental health, how everything came to a head and how he now copes by managing his stress better and has come out the other side. Clancy's Cans

Barley, Beer and family farming in the midlands.
Join David Walsh-Kemmis and myself in Ballykilcavan on the family's beautiful farm in County Laois as we explore their journey so far in the brewing business. Hear about their fantastic restoration project involving the traditional farm buildings, setting up an on-farm brewery and how they've now incorporated a visitor centre on site too.
This is a place with a rich history, biodiversity and is a beautiful farm interspersed with native woodlands which are managed as 'continuous cover'.
I really enjoyed the visit to Ballykilcavan. I hope you, the listener does too!
