Paul Gero of www.paulfgero.com is a proper photojournalist. For the first 19 years of his career, he worked as a staff photographer for the Chicago Tribune and the Arizona Republic. He also shot freelance work for magazines including Sports Illustrated, Time, People, Fortune and others.

He's photographed everything from Presidents, political conventions, civil unrest in Haiti, and professional sports amongst thousands of assignments for publications.

I heard him interviewed by past guest Dan Milnor and was surprised to hear he now photographs weddings and family portraits.

I was more surprised to hear him mention names like Sue Bryce and Tero Sade then go on to talk about book projects and marketing campaigns to attract his ideal clients and generate terrific sales.

    Why surprise?

I think it's because it helped me see that what we strive to do and create as wedding and portrait photographers is truly worthy as a photographic pursuit.

And, that someone so skilled, so established in the photojournalistic world can be the same as you and me when it comes down to the business of photography… running ads and marketing campaigns to keep the enquiries coming in and the income ticking over as we do what we love.

In this interview, Paul shares how and why he went from work as a photojournalist staff photographer to self-employed and why he wouldn't change a thing.

Beth Alexander of www.beth-photography.com has been a long time PhotoBizX member and a pet photographer with the dream of supplying affordable, stunning pet photographs to local pet lovers with her mobile pet photography studio.

I receive Beth's email newsletter updates and have been following along as she built out her very own Mobile Pet Photography Studio.

Then I recently received this personal email from her…

The last month has been crazy with finalising things and getting the trailer ready inside and out for the end of August launch.

Before covid hit I started working with Alex Cearns which has been great, she is so knowledgeable, it's been great.

We ran a Facebook Promo to Celebrate the Launch of the trailer.

I ended up choosing 80 people, booked 30 so far, and I have ten more to talk to this week, which means I'll probably book 40 sessions!

I'm pretty darn happy with these numbers!

Last week I had four sessions in the trailer and have seven booked for this week.

The trailer workflow has been going nicely, arrive, setup, text them that I'm waiting for them outside their house, do a session, they take a break out of the trailer while I edit one image, they come back to view all the photos and place their order, everything takes about 2 hours right now.

That's all I have for you right now, I just wanted to say hi and share the great news!

    Have a great day,

    Beth

I immediately replied, asking if she'd be happy to come on and share more about her pet photography business.

She said yes, and in this interview, Beth shares how to set up a successful mobile pet photography studio.

Raheel Gauba of www.fiaforever.com was introduced to me by Sean LeBlanc – who's appeared on the Podcast twice in the past.

    He said in that intro…

I want to introduce you Raheel Gauba. You may already know Raheel as one of the driving forces behind King & Fields Studios. He is an incredible photographer and a legend when it comes to the business of photography. He has style and finesse, and I highly recommend having him on the Podcast.

After some research, I learnt that Raheel is a 50% owner of the King and Fields Studio with Ben and Erin Chrisman – also past interview guests on the show.

In his role there, his primary responsibility is marketing, doing half the photography and sales sessions.

Plus, he has his own and separate business – FIA Forever Photography where he photographs weddings, portraits, headshots, pets and boudoir.

In this interview, Raheel shares exactly how he treats every client like a $20,000 client and how this approach has affected his business in regards to bookings, sales, referrals and success. Plus … his complete process from lead generation to pre-shoot consultation which is the secret to his high sales averages.

One thing which immediately stood out to me when visiting his website was his pricing. Packages start at $2000, and his most popular option is $3500.

There's also an emphasis on his Dogarama prints – which are beautiful, large panoramic wall art featuring… you guessed it… Dogs.

And he has a knack of attracting his ideal clients, who he knows intimately and are willing to make sizable investments in his wall art.

In this interview, Craig goes into detail about his complete sales process which begins with dog treats at his mandatory pre-shoot consultations with every dog photography client so you can make large dog photography wall art sales consistently.
