Nothing says youโre starting uni more than a good old Ikea shopping trip! Itโs almost compulsory at this point. You drag your parents along, you overfill the trolley with essentials you will definitely need and junk you probably wonโt, but you tell yourself you might. You get to the till and itโs far more expensive than you thoughtโฆ you swear half the items were only ยฃ1! I have to say, Iโm guilty of this trip, we all are, right? But is it sustainable? Do we need to buy everything brand new? Is Ikea products the only option?
As Iโm going into my fourth year of being a student, itโs really come to my attention the throwaway culture at university. We buy something new and cheap, which we use for a short period of time before it wears out, breaks or gets left on the side of the road. Itโs convenient but not sustainable. And Iโm not even convinced in the long run it is cheaper. In this blog post, Iโm going to take you through some alternative options for buying your essentials for university, whether youโre a fresher or your returning for another year. -
Sustainable Skin Care

Plastic-free skin care is something Iโve been wanting to explore for a while. Stats show that in the beauty industry 120 billion units of packaging are produced every year[1] andย 91% ofย plastic produced doesnโt get recycled[2]. Plastic packaging is such a massive part of the beauty industry and it can be really difficult to avoid it. And those products which arenโt contained in plastic are often more expensive and harder to come by. In this post Iโm going to be chatting through three new sustainable beauty products Iโve been trying recently; a coffee scrub, cotton face pads and natural bar soap. We canโt necessarily tackle the plastic problem all at once, but, we can start somewhereโฆ

Can Minimalism Increase Our Happiness?

Inspiration:
Inspired by the Netflix documentary โMinimalism: A Documentary About The Important Thingsโ, a few months ago I decided to attempt a more minimalist lifestyle. While for me, this did not mean emptying my house of all unnecessary possessions โ which I am sure my parents and housemates would not have been impressed with โ I thought of ways I could adopt this lifestyle in a way that was more manageable. But what exactly is minimalism, and could the saying โless is moreโ help us to increase our happiness?

Lists
Firstly, lists, lists and more lists. Lists are great to motivate yourself to do tasks, make sure things get done, and get thoughts out of your head. I mainly use lists to motivate myself to achieve small and big goals!
Find a way to express how you are feeling
Finding a way to express how you are feeling can be so healing. Whether thatโs positivity, thankfulness, or struggles with anxiety or depression, expressing yourself in a way that suits you can help you feel inner peace.
Be kind to yourself
Lastly, be kind to yourself and allow yourself to feel how you feel. Acknowledging how you are feeling can sometimes be such a relief. If you are having a bad day, acknowledge that and give yourself a break.
