Our episode today will focus on the question, “How does someone defend themselves when they are called a racist?” Which is a really good question, but probably not for the reasons one might assume. How important is it for an individual to not be a racist, vs. a society recognizing the existence of racism?

    But My Friend is Black!

    But My Friend is Black!

Today we are looking at Chapter 5 of Robin DiAngelo’s book “Nice Racism.” The title of Chapter 5 is “The Moves of White Progressives.” But another way one could title this chapter is, “But My Friend is Black!”

    Is Everything Racist?

    Is Everything Racist?

    Is everything racist?

“Nice Racism How Progressive White People Perpetuate Racial Harm” by Robin
Diangelo takes that question seriously. And it’s a good question because if
you are a white person, this thought (or a variation of it) has come into
your mind at one time or another.

Today Carl and Jason will talk about how Robin answers that question and
how she challenges the notion that many white people, ESPECIALLY white
progressives, that all the racists are somewhere else.

This can be a tough conversation but we like tough conversations.
