Steve Aoki: Creativity, Community and No Days Off

Society would have us believe that we’re just supposed to know what we’re meant to do in our life, but it’s not true. It’s only through action - taking small steps every day - that the bigger picture is revealed.
That is something that my guest, Steve Aoki, shares on this episode of the show. He’s one of the most prolific, renowned DJ and music producers in the world. He’s been nominated for multiple Grammys and known for his high-impact experiential live performances. Steve is also the founder of the record label, lifestyle company, and apparel line Dim Mak, which has helped launch bands like Bloc Party, Klaxons, and the Gossip.
Relentless hard work has Steve averaging more than 250 tour dates per year playing to thousands. But it's his wisdom and resilience from his community, his family, and a DIY culture that keeps him inventing and reinventing what’s possible when we dream big but start the journey one step at a time.
    Enjoy!

    Exponential Living with Sheri Riley

    Exponential Living with Sheri Riley

One of the things I love about this show is the opportunity to share with you things I'm learning, listening to, and taking inspiration from. Today's show is no different. My guest today is Sheri Riley. After 20 years of creating really innovative marketing fo Usher, TLC, Toni Braxton, Converse, the NBA, BMW, and Turner, to name a few, she now serves as an Empowerment Speaker and Life Strategist.
Not too long ago, Sheri joined us at the CreativeLive studios for her class, based on her book Exponential Living. In a world that's a bit out of sorts right now, this her message could not be more timely. So I wanted to share a few segments of her class that I really resonated with me around three topics:
1- What is our definition of success. So many of us are striving and working hard toward success. But Sheri helps us ask ourselves, WHAT is the success we are actually seeking. Too many of us are listening and even living someone else's definition of success.
2- Peace is Power. Our busyness, stress, anxiety leads to emptiness and what Sheri helps us tap into is the grounding sense of peace to remain present in the moment, to allow moments of reflection, and tap into an inner strength of who we are.
3- How to build lasting confidence - If drive is a protective strength, Confidence is our vulnerable strength. It gives us courage to be.
These are just a few powerful topics in her class. Of course, if you'd like to check out the full class, it's available on CreativeLive at https://cr8.lv/ExponentialLiving
    Enjoy!

Risk, Fear, and the Art of Chill with Jimmy Chin

Risk, Fear, and the Art of Chill with Jimmy Chin

It's a very rare occurrence when my man Jimmy Chin is in one place for any length of time. But in these pandemic times, he finds himself adventuring in his backyard in Jackson, WY and staying close to home with his family. Of course I had to seize the opportunity to finally sit down and check-in on his whirlwind career.
Jimmy Chin is an Academy Award winning filmmaker, National Geographic photographer and mountain sports athlete known for his ability to capture extraordinary imagery and stories while climbing and skiing in extremely high-risk environments and expeditions. A longtime member of The North Face Athlete Team, he has led dozens of exploratory expeditions and completed first ascents around the globe, working with the best adventure athletes in the world. In 2006, he became one of the only people to ski off the summit of Mount Everest.
In this conversation, we cover a lot of ground. From humble beginnings as a dirtbag photographer, Jimmy's first big break, mentorship, balancing family and life on the road, to international recognition for his films Oscar Shortlisted Documentary 'Meru' and 7x Emmy Award Winning and Academy Award for Best Documentary 'Free Solo', and the lessons along the way.

One of the best podcasts if you want to feel inspired

I’ve loved and listened to this podcast for years now. It’s mostly the vast variety of stories and guests that make each and every episode worth a listen. Chase is a great interviewer that never “claims” the show, but always acts as a facilitator so that the guest can shine and tell his/her story the right way.

Why are you still reading this? Start checking this podcast out right now!

REAL

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Chase in Amsterdam at a conference a few years back and we had a great conversation on creativity and making work that matters. He is as real in this podcast as he was when I met him, so it’s a joy to listen to him and his guests.

Thanks Chase and see you around.
