Born in Canada, Randy grew up listening to Top-40 radio and folk music as well as watching his dad perform in marching band, where Randy also learned Drum Corp playing in his early years before joining his first band Phase 4 at fifteen years old.
In 2004, already having a successful studio career in Canada, Randy moved to California and became a top call session drummer and has never looked back. He’s recorded albums with Kelly Clarkson, Eurythmics Dave Stewart, as well as touring recently with Colbie Caillat, and Smash Mouth to name a few. One of the coolest groove masters on the planet. Jess is one of the drummers highlighted in the inspirational Netflix documentary, out now, about drums and drumming, titled “Count Me In.” We highly recommend watching it.
Jess fills us in on her early days, the documentary, her past experiences touring, and recently reuniting with the band. She refers to herself as “the newbie” about her role in the film, and despite her starting at an early young age, she’s paid her dues and continues to rise and share her inspiration to everyone.

Episode 47: Billy Amendola with Shannon Forrest.
This week on the Modern Drummer Podcast, Nashville studio drummer, engineer, and producer Shannon Forrest joins Billy Amendola to talk about his years touring with Toto, his early days with Faith Hill and Tim McGraw and his road says with the Dukes of September in 2012. (Featuring Boz Scaggs, Donald Fagan & Michael McDonald). Shannon later went on to produced McDonald’s album “Wide Open.”
Forrest grew up in South Carolina watching his dad Otis engineer Gospel and country acts before moving with his family to Nashville in 1987. In a short period of time he became one of the most in-demand-session musicians in town recording for Brooks & Dunn, Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood, Willie Nelson, Tim McGraw, Toby Keith, Merle Haggard, Kenny Rogers, Keith Urban and many more.
Forrest fills us in on the influence Jeff Porcaro had on him growing up and his good friend and Toto percussionist Lenny Castro as well as his current Pearl and Paiste gear. Let’s watch and listen in.

This week's Modern Drummer Podcast with Billy Amendola & David Frangioni features session / live drummer Chad Cromwell. A first call Nashville and LA studio drummer who brought his Memphis roots to Nashville recordings since 1990, with Lady Antebellum, (now known as Lady A) LeAnn Rimes, Amy Grant, Dave Stewart, and Joss Stone, to name a few. Chad tells us about his touring days with Peter Frampton, Mark Knopfler and Neil Young, as well as filling us in on, his Craviotto drum kit and playing with Sir Paul McCartney. Peter Frampton told MD: “For me the drummer in any band is the engine that drives and steers the rest of the players. Chad is one of a handful of players in the world who has the sensitivity and overall feel to take the music to another level.”
