The Roosevelt connection to Oak Island

Franklin D. Roosevelt invested in the Oak Island treasure hunt as a young law clerk in 1909 and maintained his interest for thirty-six years, corresponding with treasure hunters from the White House throughout the 1930s. His grandfather Warren Delano had invested in the Truro Company in 1849. Roosevelt believed the treasure was the lost crown jewels of Marie Antoinette and planned to visit the island in August 1939, but fog and the outbreak of World War II prevented the trip.
