Episode 142: The Greenhouse Effect
A detailed discussion of the greenhouse effect and its impact on Earth's climate. We begin with a discussion of Earth’s energy budget, the various greenhouse gases and their interactions with longwave radiation, and a summary of major sources of greenhouse gas emisions. We then examine the mechanisms of the greenhouse effect in more detail using the idealised greenhouse model and radiative transfer models. We conclude with an analysis of the sensitivity of Earth's climate to changes in greenhouse gas concentrations, and how this interacts with the atmospheric lapse rate. Episode 140: A History of Earth's Climate
A journey through the history of Earth's changing climate, in which we explore how Earth's climate has fluctuated over the past billion years. After reviewing the various temperature proxies used to estimate past climactic conditions, we discuss the varying hothouse and icehouse periods of Earth's history, the onset of the Quarternay Ice Age, the current interglacial period, the anomoly of the Younger Dryas, the Medieval Warm Period and Little Ice Ages, and the rapid rise in temperatures during the twentieth century. Episode 139: Cybersecurity and Cryptocurrencies
An introduction to cryptography, internet security, and cryptocurrency, beginning with an overview of RSA cryptography and covering the use of public and private keys and their incorporation into the Transport Layer Security protocol used for secure internet communications. We then examine the key features of cryptocurrencies, including the blockchain, proof of work consensus mechanism, the use of hash functions, and the role of crypto mining. We conclude with a discussion of some of the advantages and disadvantages of cryptocurrencies, including their anonymity, volatility, use in crime, and environmental impacts.

Awesome learning
I love this podcast. So far the episodes I’ve listened to (everything with physics, some math and chemistry) has helped make sense of a lot of questions I never dared ask in school. It explains (eg physics) in a way that connects all the rules, maths and concepts. It helps me make a lot more sense out of it and gives me a more complete understanding than I have been able to gain reading about the topics individually. I find the theme tune hilarious, inappropriate and very random and it has become one of my favourite things about this too:) I have to listen to it at 0,8 times speed so I can follow it all though! Thanks for this great free learning source:)!
Super show about al to do with science
A very entertaining and interesting show about all science have to offer. The host, James Fodal, has a vast knowledge about a wide range of topics which he is able to explain with great clarity during the show episodes.
Found this show only a few months ago, and now already at episode 65. Looking forward to the upcoming episodes.
Wonderful podcast!
I have long been looking for a podcast or channel that explores different scientific topics in a comprehensive but not overly complicated manner. In this podcast I have found everything I was looking for and so much more! James provides the science but also gives the background on the subject and most importantly doing so in a very relatable manner with focus on the big picture. One can not help but marvel the ease with which he links different subjects and leaves the listener with a sense of understanding and desire to hear the next lecture.
I was mostly interested for review of some topics in science, particularly biology, physics, and astronomy, but I must say: I am super excited to listen also to the biochemistry and thermodynamics lectures even though they were not my favorite in university! I can’t recommend this podcast enough for anyone who wants to learn about the world around us in just the right amount of detail. Great job, James!
