On january 1st, 1847 a newspaper titled “the liberator” published a letter written by reverend Benjamin Chase describing his visit to Ona Judge. An elderly black woman, who shared with him the story of her escape from enslavement at the washington estate, 50 years prior.

It took many years for the atlantic slave trade to truly cease to exist but across the world that process began in in the early 1800, however it takes time, and we don't see the last slave ships reach american soils until the 1860s. But the end of the slave trade most certainly did not mean the end of racism.
