Most mothers feel undervalued, unseen, taken for granted and not honoured for having one of the most challenging and important roles in society. 1 in 5 mothers are diagnosed with a Perinatal Mood disorder, with many more experiencing fatigue, exhaustion, burnout, and other physical mental and health issues including thyroid imbalances, adrenal fatigue, and autoimmune disease. Postpartum Doula, Matrescence & Maternal Wellness Coach and Social Activist, Hope Corbin, hosts the Thriving Mamas podcast with her passion for supporting mothers to thrive physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, financially, relationally, and in their gifts and service to the world. She wants to see mothers experiencing more wellness, joy, and happiness, while starting a movement that shifts the culture so that mothers are more respected, supported, and honoured for the very important and hard work they do each day.

Sustainable self care, honouring our physiological impulses, and creating healthy boundaries with Briar Culbert

I was first introduced to registered Psychotherapist Briar Culbert at the Nurtured Revolution Retreat put on by Greer Kirshenbaum.
I loved the talk she shared at the retreat, and so when she asked to come on this podcast it was an instant YES!
In this episode we chat about:
Weaving self care in little moments throughout the day, so that it is sustainable Listening to our bodies impulses Listening to the physiology of our body and what it wants Reclaiming our wild innate physciology Letting go of our domestication and socialization Allowing our bodies to express emotional charge in front of our children The alchemy that can happen when we creatively express emotional energy in front of our children and it shifts to laughter and play How we can identify our own needs How we've been socialized away from our recognizing and care for our needs What is a healthy human need That emotions are information about whether or not our needs are being met How to communicate your needs in a clearly and specific way Finding sustainability in your parenting style as a mother How a spiritual focus in psychotherapy can support you If you'd like to work with Briar or take one of her workshops you can find here at briarculbert.com

    7. Part 2 - Liberating Yourself From Mom Guilt... some clarification

    7. Part 2 - Liberating Yourself From Mom Guilt... some clarification

This episode was inspired by a talk I listened to by Dr. Sophie Brock at the Parental Brain Summit 2.0.
Here I clarify how guilt can be an important human emotion that we don't necessarily want to get rid of, but how to distinguish when we are experiencing guilt that can support us to evolve as a mother, or guilt that will lead us into an impossible downward spiral.
This episode expands on Episode 6, Liberating Yourself From Mom Guilt, so if you haven't listened to that episode please go back and listen to that one.

    3. The Parenting Style That Took Me From Resentful and Burnt-out to Thriving

    3. The Parenting Style That Took Me From Resentful and Burnt-out to Thriving

A mother in one of the mom's group I hosted suggested I would really like the book Hunt Gather Parent by Michaeleen Doucleff, but at the time she suggested it I was too busy to listen. I was later prompted to read the book and it has revolutionized my parenting and my life. It's taken me from resentful, angry and burnt out to happier, healthier, and thriving.
Michaeleen went to live with 3 different intact indigenous cultures and learnt their best parenting techniques and she has weaved it together into what she calls TEAM parenting.
In this episode I share some of the gold nuggets I learnt from the book and how it has shifted our family system.
    What You Will Learn:
the benefits of weaving your child into the housework and daily adult activities of life how chores can become play and the benefit of that what shifted as we moved from child centric to family centric I reflect on the question "Are we raising children to be children to be helpful cooperative community minded adults?" what are conscequence puzzles and how they inspire intrinsic motivation how I fill my cup AND spend time with my child Learn more about TEAM parenting in the book Hunt Gather Parent
