The Merely Players are roused from their lazy summer slumber by a messenger who sends word that Shyla of Stratford - the famed merchant of coin - seeks their services. Upon meeting the Cleric of Vergadain, she informs them that a local bank - Venitzia Holdings - has been facilitating deals between government officials and the criminal underworld, undercutting her business. She hires the Players to join her in a heist to steal the incriminating documents from the bank’s secure vault in order to shut down these shady deals.

The Merely Players are approached by a servant of a nearby local lord - Baron Robbert Usher. Lord Robbert is keen to have the party to investigate the strange goings on at his manor house. The party, having now spent a month moving into their new tower abode, is visited by a traveling caravan of Rosanti people looking for a place to camp. The Rosanti matron, a mysterious woman by the name of Domna Patrina Ducdamé, rewards the heroes for their kindness by hosting them in her camp that evening. While enjoying the Rosanti hospitality, the Merely Players are invited to participate in an unusual game, which pits comrade versus comrade in a battle royale!
