Normal... Y'all, Really?
It's Story Time!
I'm opening Trading Seeds up with some reflection on a conversation I had about 2 months ago in NYC before the virus really rocked things.
First, I am so grateful and blessed to be able to leave NYC. It is really a privilege. Next, I have so many loved ones in NYC and y'all are constantly on my mind. If something were to prevent food from coming into the city, how would you eat?
My same thought applies to rural Southern areas, the answer is a little more obvious. Grow food in the yard! But not necessarily. Remote rural areas and cities are both afflicted by the same sickness, a globalized, racist, food system.
A system rooted in theft, colonization, and slavery that dictates who gets food and who does not. Who gets paid for producing "food" and who does not.
This clip is a snippet of a longer piece in which I name some of the current day issues in our food system in the U.S., and call you, beloved, to not treat it as "normal" ever again.
