Dr Sarma Volety is a Tribologist and contract manager at Tata steel strip products in the UK.

Helen Ryan is a retired distinguished advisor at Afton Chemical. During her career she formulated some of the best industrial lubricant additive packages in the world. 

Dr James Ewen is a Research Fellow in the Tribology group in Imperial College London.   James specialises in using supercomputers to study solid-liquid interfaces with molecular
simulations.   

Roshan Lal is a EngD student at the University of Birmingham in the formulation CDT.  Roshan is investigating the performance of core die coatings, sponsored by Rolls Royce.  Roshan is also the founder and chair of the new STLE UK student chapter.

Professor Rob Dwyer-Joyce did his PhD in Tribology in 1993.
After a short stint at British gas Rob joined the University of Sheffield in 1994 as a lecturer.  Whilst at Sheffield University he spent 6 years as head of the department.  His research expertise is in industrial wear and lubrication problems, and the development of metrology tools for tribology.

Rob pioneered the use of ultrasound measurements in tribology.

We talk about Rob’s life as an academic and department head at Sheffield University, along with his most recent research work on wind turbine bearings and internal combustion engine journal bearings.
