Your reputation inevitably precedes you, and if it inspires respect, a lot of your work is done for you before you arrive on the scene or utter a single word.”

However on the other hand attacking another man’s reputation is weapon in of itself, particularly when you have less power than he does — so you have less to to lose. However this practice is a lot more delicate, it must be practiced with skill. It must not seem to engage in petty vengeance. If you do not break your enemies reputation cleverly you will inadvertently ruin your own.

Today on episode 18 we are talking about men who are assertiveness vs men who are aggressive.



Assertiveness:

A combination of self-mastery - when you are in touch with your thoughts and emotions and are in control of your actions/reactions - and the ability to communicate clearly with others, without expecting a specific response in return.  

Assertiveness is an empowered and direct form of communication that shows you are willing to take a stand for yourself, but also recognize that other people also have the right to take a stand for their beliefs, so you remain open to dialogue and compromise.



Aggressiveness: 

On the polar opposite side of the spectrum from passiveness, we find aggressiveness - a behavior some use to get what they want at all costs. People who behave aggressively are sometimes mischaracterized as assertive, however the biggest difference in being assertive means you stand up for yourself while being considerate of others, while being aggressive means you don’t care how your behavior affects others, as long as you get what you want.

Being rude, pushy, intimidating or relying on physical dominance to get their way, people who act aggressively have difficulty sustaining healthy relationships. Sadly, they rarely recognize that it is their behavior pushing people away and are left feeling abandoned and victimized.

Court Attention at All Costs. As everything is judged by appearance, you must stand out. Make yourself appear larger, more interesting, and more mysterious than the masses. One way to do this is to surround your name with sensation and scandal. Bear in mind that notoriety of any sort brings power.

After looking into the quote, "A Man Who Won't Stand For Nothing Will Fall For Anything" I think it is meant to ask what you’ll die for, but I always thought it had a bit of another meaning (probably because of the quote it’s based on*). If you don’t stand for anything or have any convictions, will you just be a follower listening to the loudest voice at the time? Will you fall for anything? I don’t want to just follow the crowd to the “safest” place I can find. I want to create safe spaces. I want the whole world to be safe for everyone.
