Wayward Noise Bandbox

The 64-minute, fourteen-song Up was R.E.M.'s first record following the departure of original drummer Bill Berry. Though it could have arguably benefited from more thoughtful sequencing and a shorter run time, it did find the band exploring new sonic terrain by channeling influences like Patti Smith and The Beach Boys. 

In the pilot episode of Wayward Noise, the fellas dig into Neil Young's 1982 gem, Trans. While most critics and many fans have written off the album as a Geffen-era gaffe, our three hosts beg to differ.
