What Makes Schools Gender Inclusive‪?‬ Gender School: Smash the Cis-tem

    • Maatschappij en cultuur

In our first Gender School: Smash the Cis-tem episode we have a conversation about what we wish we had access to in schools in order to make the spaces more gender inclusive. We talk through the question, what is it that actually makes school environments inclusive and safe for Trans and Non-binary students? With the help of Leah Jordan, the Educational Equity Consultant for Saint Paul Public Schools, we discuss and shed more light on what gender inclusion policies actually are and what they do for students across MN.

General Podcast Description:

Welcome to Gender School: Smash the Cis-tem! We are a diverse team of high school students working at OutFront MN focusing on researching and analyzing the impacts of gender inclusion policies in schools. A gender inclusion policy is a policy that articulates a district’s planned approach to accommodating the needs of transgender and gender-nonconforming students. This policy would outline steps of an action plan to address and remove gender inequities within a school or districts. Our goal is to implement gender inclusion policies in schools throughout Minnesota to ensure the safety, educational, and social equity of transgender, gender non-conforming, and gender nonbinary students with the help of OutFront Minnesota. As an OutFront Minnesota podcast, we strive to spark conversations based on the data we’ve collected from students across Minnesota high schools on gender inclusion. Throughout our series of episodes we’ll show and portray the experiences and perspective of LGBTQ+ youth and attempt to educate people on issues pertaining to gender equality. The podcast will also be a safe place for people to just come and listen and will provide best ways to support trans, enby and gnc students in schools. We hope the podcast can be something trans, gnc, and enby students can resonate with and feel validated with and will collaborate with other organizations along the way.

This Podcast was created and hosted by Bisandi, Tori, and Kai; three high school students in Minnesota.
