Amps and Axes

I’ve been listening to the Amps and Axes cast for quite a while now, and I’ve always had a guilty conscience for not rating and reviewing, so here goes.

If you are a guitarist, musician, tone hound or just love music in general, you should really listen to these guys.
The interviews they have are excellent, they always manage to get interesting people on the podcast, whether they are “behind the scenes” guys, like Slipknots guitar tech or legends like Leslie West and Paul Gilbert.
They always make the interviews sound more like friendly banter or a conversation between friends rather then simple questions and answers. The structure of the show is predictable and well organized and the tone is always friendly.

The guys themselves are no slouches either, Jeff Bober is the man behind the Budda amps and now makes the East Amplification amps. In other words, his tagline of “the godfather of low wattage amps” is WELL earned. The guitar side of things is in safe hands with co host Mick Marcellino
While they sometimes get into the technical side of things, they never go overboard with it, and you usually come out smarter on the other side.
The “grand ‘ol man” vibe of amp guru Bober fits perfectly with the contagious laughter of Mr. Marcellino and they always seems to make the interview subjects relaxed and at ease.

If you just wanna kick back after a long day or need to fill your workhours/commute with something, try these guys out, it feels just like hanging out with a couple of long time friends.
I highly recommend the experience, and you get to walk down memory lane with some amazing people, builders and musicians.
If you like music, you owe it to yourself to listen to these interviews.

The “this week in music” side of their podcast is an excellent and lighthearted account of interesting tidbits in musical history.

Oh yeah, they also have excellent taste in music, prepare to be checking out many new artists after listening to these guys.
Besides, you can’t really beat the value for money here, it’s free, and they deliver on a level that many professionals can’t.

Thank you very much Mr. Bober and Mr. Marcellino, for making the hours of my workday more interesting.

6/5 stars and as always.
Onward.
