Can technology deliver a better society? In this series from the heart of Westminster, the House Magazine and the IET discuss with parliamentarians and industry experts how technology and engineering can provide policy solutions to our changing world.

Transport currently accounts for around a quarter of carbon emissions and is the largest emitting sector in the UK. Decarbonising the transport industry to hit the UK net-zero target by 2050 requires urgent, clear and decisive action.

This podcast will explore how new technology can transform the UK into a hub for green transport technology and innovation, including through electric vehicles, hydrogen, and place-based solutions.

Host Jonn Elledge is joined by Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport Trudy Harrison, Kerry McCarthy MP, Shadow Minister for Green Transport, Professor Phil Blythe, IET Vice President and former Chief Scientific Adviser at the Department for Transport and Olivia Carpenter-Lomax, Chair of the IET Energy Sector Executive Committee.

Delivering the skills required to make net zero happen

Delivering the skills required to make net zero happen

The UK’s 2050 net zero aim will not happen without a skilled workforce. Now more than ever organisations are looking at how they can train their existing workforce to meet net zero through initiatives such as upskilling, but also externally, using initiatives such as green apprenticeships to encourage young people from STEM backgrounds through the door.

To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, this episode will explore how we can lead the way in delivering the skills required to make net zero happen, including best practice examples.

Host Jonn Elledge talks to Siobhan Baillie MP, and Yvonne Baker and Dr Graham Herries, Co-Chairs of the Institution of Engineering and Technology's Education and Skills Policy Panel, and interviews Dr Alex Burghart MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Skills.
